Jammu: A heavy flow of money was behind the stone-pelting protests in Kashmir last summer, according to a top militant leader who was believed to be instigating the stir in the Valley.

Hardline Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam, who became an icon for protesters, has told interrogators that he spent Rs 40 lakh to organise the protests that left more than 110 people dead in clashes with security forces.

"He also revealed that he had received the money from separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani," a senior police officer said.

"We are trying to find out the channels through which the money came to Geelani and was distributed among the protest instigators like Masarat Alam," Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda has been quoted as saying in local newspaper Daily Excelsior.

Alam was arrested in October and curfew was imposed in Srinagar and other major towns of the Valley a day after the arrest to prevent any violence.

The protests gained in intensity following the death of 17-year-old Tufail Mattoo after he was hit by a teargas shell in Srinagar on June 11. The subsequent unrest in the Valley claimed 110 lives, of mostly youngsters.

Its a open secrete that Rs. 200 per person was paid and goons led the stone pelting.

They remain behind and asks childrens and ladies to go in front so that the goons can be safe and if something hits a child/women then they can go on riot.

India should stop giving thousands of crores to the people of Kashmir as a part of the special status. The leaders are just plain abusing the special status funds to put the lives of the innocent people at risk.

If you claim that APHC bought off stone throwing kids for just Rs.40 lacs and if even money was the crieterea for the kids to take to street then wat stopped GOI to pay doule and triple the amount to the same kids to keep them off the streets.Any way GOI spends billions on kashmir why not few more millions to pacify the crowd if only money was the reason.But GOI coulnt do it.

Reason being it was never about money it was passion of kids about azadi.It was passion of kids and their patriotism towards kashmir along with 60 yrs of opression that made them to come out on street and die for it.And remember innocent blood never goes in vain for which it was shed.India will have to leave kashmir sooner or later.

Why doesn't Pakistan pay off the protesters in Balochistan?
Why doesn't the US pay off the Al-Qaida?

Why aren't all protesters paid off? Because that will give rise to more fake protesters lured by the money. The next day you will have protesters in Delhi hoping to be paid even more.

By defending the fake protesters some people here are abusing the real Kashmiris, who fought off these protesters and won the right of not letting their lives get hijacked by them.

Hmm.. to do what you suggest, GoI will have to pay the entire population (every man, woman and child) not to do stone pelting, since the GoI don't know who were paid up for pelting. For the separatists, they have to pay up a few hundred misguided youth to do the pelting.
So, go figure.
