People joined British army for pay check. It was voluntarily service, in fact they had too many people lining up to join and if not muslims then hindus would line up to join British army in large numbers. I wonder how that would have turned out, I bet not very good for Pakistan muslims. Many muslims were not happy with sikh rule and helped British and later many joined British colonial army. Current day people from Turkey don't know but central asian turks ascended after being slaves. If Nadir Shah was turk then he destroyed "muslim" empire in Delhi which helped non-muslims. So quite pointless to go back in time.

Colonial soldiers of Pakistani origin are not remembered at all no matter what they did. People only learn about Pakistan nishan-e-haiders. Soldiers who died fighting for Pakistan.

They should be reminded that khilafat movement was more in opposition to British than to their support. Bareilwis , who form the bulk of population of Pakistan , did not support Khilafat movement and supported the rebellion of Arabs against Ottomans, who were claiming to be caliphs .

And Turks were not damsels in distress, they themeselves imperialists. They are still condemned for Armenian genocide.

I don't disrespect the Turkish fallen, why are some guys here disrespecting our fallen? You don't know the history of this region or why some tribes joined with the British.

For example, my tribe were fighting the Sikh Empire and lost lands to them, after the British came, we joined up with them to take revenge on the Sikhs. It was a win-win mutual situation. Why should I be ashamed of this? We also joined the British Army because our leaders told the British that we will help you keep your freedom and in return you will give us freedom in countries. These are historical facts, not ego driven one pointers left by others on this thread.

And also tell me why it is more glorious to fight and die for one foreign (Ottoman) empire over another (British)? Only because of the same religion? Well that didn't stop the Ottomans from making war on surrounding Muslim areas and taking over them. I'd rather fight for the one who helped to kick out oppressive Sikh extremists and allowed us to worship in peace then to pretend to be some cheap self declared glory hunter.

In Crimean War Ottoman Empire joins Britain & France to fight Russia. In World War 1 Ottoman Empire decides to lick the Kaiser and German boots to fight Britain and France. Right now you are a part of NATO. You enjoy a lot of trading privileges with Europe.
