Modern India: A personal experience of a Sri Lankan

MUMBAI & CHENNAI has one of the best cultured & helpful people in India...

Yea right, drag Mumbai along while praising Chennai... I have lived in Chennai, and realized that their hospitality, mannerism, and cleanliness are unmatched in the world. And then, I met quite a few Mumbaikars too, though never been to Mumbai, I did get some ideas lol

Delhi people are the most rude people with loadz of attitude...

It's not the attitude (they can't even spell it), it's just the culture here. Most vulgar of profanities have become the acceptance card to any crowd here. Majority of the Delhiites that come from rural areas of western Haryana or eastern UP are the ones to blame.

Just because I always take utmost care to pay proper respect when I talk, innumerable times have I been mistaken to be too weak and too scared that I pay such respect. So unless you start talking with loads of arrogance with some spice of dirtiest profanities, you are not worthy of respect. Such is the mannerism of Delhiites.

On one hand I feel ashamed that I am a Delhiite, on the other hand, I feel proud that I did not allow this prevalent culture to affect my thinking and behavior. No wonder I keep running out of this city every now and then, it is suffocating.

Yar, I already cleared that I have not visited Mumbai. But news of MNS and the likes does get around, and then I met some people from Mumbai in Bihar, Delhi, Ann Arbor, and Chicago. Majority of them did not appear to be a proper representation of a major city.

Mera poora post parho yar, I criticize the Delhiites the most, even though I am one.

Yea, for the fast life of Mumbai, and mostly southwestern culture, I am sure it must be much safer for outsiders to be in Mumbai than in Delhi. But Chennai, I spent my childhood there, and still visit every now and then. It is the best place for any outsiders (provided you do not insist too much on your Hindi).

Pathetic article! What is this? stereotype 101?

"Money hungry " people of Chennai:disagree: Indians don't need anyones approval. No one forces people to come visit India. These kinda articles make me cringe.

The strange thing about Delhi and North India as a whole is the fact that the people are extremely ignorant. For example, being from Assam and having spent quite a lot of time in Agra, Delhi and Lucknow, I've faced some questions like:

You are from Assam? 4-5 din lagte honge? and then

Aare tumhare aakhen toh Chinki nai lagte? Tum yahaan ke hi lagte ho..wahan ke nai...

Damn! One guy even asked me if Assam had gained independence from Bangladesh.

Aare bhai, Assam is a part of India. Fortunately, I found Southies to be much more knowledgeable and graceful. Bangalore is a great city and I just love being here.

Southys may accept chinkis more( or better to say they wont tell anything to your face), they are as ignorant as northies (about anything north of vindhya.)
BTW you will be called north Indian anyway, no matter how much I protest saying I am from east, nobody listens.

Bangalore is not south India anymore.

The whole image I had in my mind about money-hungry Chennai people collapsed and I felt very guilty about the initial bad impression I had about her. It was amazing to see an employee in Chennai who has got inculcated a protestant work ethic and good values.

The author should have stayed here a bit longer,or toured other cities, and will certainly find Chennai very expensive
.Everything here is a rip-off.

Of course the blame goes to us IT guys and foreigners here, who hardly understand the value of money
