Indian Junk ? The cars which can survive Indian roads can't be called Junk. :D

You bought an accord for 64 lakh Taka ? that's close to 43 lakh INR. Here a new accord comes for 23 lakh INR approx. You should ask Japanese "why this Kolaveri Di ?"

Mitsubishi Motors to invest Tk 400 cr to produce Sedan

Dhaka, Jan 17 (UNB) - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), a world-famous Japanese automaker, is planning to set up a manufacturing unit here with an initial investment of Tk 400 crore to produce ‘Mirage Sedan Car’ to meet the growing local demand for cars.

The company will set up the unit under public-private partnership (PPP) to establish ‘Mirage Sedan Car’ as Bangladesh’s national brand, said a senior official at the MCC on Thursday.

The Japanese company showed the interest during a meeting between Industries Minister Dilip Barua and corporate general manager of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Masahiko Ueki at Shilpa Bhaban.

Rangs Limited Managing Director Romo R Chowdhury, senior official of the MCC Tatsukazu Kinoshita, Bangladeshi entrepreneur Fayez Ahmed, Rangs Limited Head of Supply Chain Shafi Tanveer and officials of the Industries Ministry were present.

During the meeting, Masahiko Ueki said if Mirage Sedan cars are produced in Bangladesh, it will have important role in creating employments and value addition apart from building a stronger backward linkage industry.

Ueki said the car price would remain within the purchasing capacity of people as it will not exceed Tk 15 lakh per car.

The official suggested the government to restructure the duty structure, especially slashing duty on the CKD (completely knocked down or cars knocked down). Now the duty rate on the CKD and CBU (completely built unit) is the same.

Barua said the purchasing capacity of people is going up due to government’s coordinated financial policy. “As a result, the use of private cars is increasing gradually. And Bangladesh is a potential market for automobile industry.”

Earlier, on Wednesday, Rangs Ltd launched Mitsubishi Motors’ latest compact, fuel-efficient vehicle – Mirage- to cater to the growing middle-class. Mirage, the compact car has premium fuel efficiency and low carbon dioxide emission.

Either you are a bad lair or nut. 64 lakhs is about 70K USD. Accord is about 25K here. You are making no damn sense.

I don't know the real price but seems close. Cars here are too f@#!ing expensive. And when industries set up here, i was hoping that car prices will really lower down alot cutting down foreign car's demand and serving middle class families but if they want 15lac for that midget, i got nothing else to say. Bunch of leeches :hitwall:

Japanese companies are trying hard to set up plant but cooperation from govt side has been dismal. Specially with land allocation and procedures. This type of project is very strategic in terms of industrial expansion and deserves high priority and pro active govt support with land, power, gas etc. Earlier, Honda opted to start motorbike production but their effort has been delayed with bureaucracy roadblocks.

Are cars so expensive in BD ?

Yup. 300% tax on imported cars, which increases every now & then. 1500cc toyota (reconditioned) cars cost 25-30 lac. 3-4 years back it would have cost 15-20 lacs.

I can understand that because the our government charges lot of tax for imported cars but for cars made here, it should be 5-6 lacs at most :hitwall:

Even if walton tries to make a 1500 cc decent car, it would surpass 5-6 lac IMO. Blame inflation & drastic devaluation of Taka.

Its in dhaka, not in canada. Cars are ridiculously over priced due to high amount of duty.

Apparently honda accords go for 68 lacs, we apparently got a deal.

The Japs are ok........it's the duty on the car that kills the customer.......Still there are so many cars that the traffic jam is unbearable!

Or the company will try taking advantage of the current price of cars. Since theirs are fairly cheaper comparing to others but they get to make more profit
