Yes its based on Gurkha LAPV. Also Dhruv executive which is also based on Gurkha LAPV. For domestic option i would go for these two vehicles. If they are not able to pass the test of IA then IA should tell our companies what their vehicles lack and they can fix it. Common IA auto companies of our country are really good and they can make whatever our forces ask them to make.another option would be viper from Shri Lakshmi Defence

Looks like a gift from India...

Common not atleast one airfield is possible in Sikkim ? Its insane...
Since no airfield is there i think we should go for more helipads and this is why i said earlier in different threads that IA should purchase more and more transport choppers as mobilization of troops in case of any conflict and even natural disaster is very slow.
Have u even seen that terrain ? I mean good i understand u are a civil engineer or someone related to this field but dude unless you see what you r dealing with stop giving diagnosis. Sikkim is fully covered in mountains but i said the previous statement because i thought atleast one airfield might come up within the whole state. Some engineers....they don;t have the creative guts to dig thru a mountain and install an airfield? Literally, cut a transverse section of mountain to install such an airfield, which would provide cover from elements, safety from mortar, etc. More importantly, it would be symbolic if anything else. The will of India to succeed no matter what....
now what is the point of having Porsches and Land Cruisers and GMC Yukon's for police and armed forces? The Oman Police has Mercedes S class , which only female police drivers drive.
If we are not purchasing indian vehicles then i think we should join US JLTV program so that US will be happy. There's no point in purchasing Pajero. Our requirement is also big and there are many contendors in JLTV, we can request US government for field test for all JLTV's in India and whoever wins will get the contract.
textron-boeing-jltv
General Dynamics / AM General JLTV
Force Protection Inc / DRS Technologies JLTV
BAE / Navistar JLTV
Northrop Grumman / Oshkosh Truck / Plasan
Lockheed Martin / Armor Holdings
Blackwater and Raytheon
We can get some version of BAE JLTV through Mahindra also or best option we can be part of this program. Also if IA is interested in replacing all its jeeps then i think we can also start a JLTV like program as it will be cheaper and will help our private defence and and not to mention our companies are capable enough to build something that will meet IA's requirement.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also does anybody knows about the progress of JLTV program ? I mean last i heard there were a large opposition for this program because there are alot of HUMVEE's produced which are left in reserves and i think government don't wanna waste money when they already have extra vehicles especially during economic crisis.
As part of a cost-cutting measure, the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform suggests canceling the JLTV.
If that happens India can request for JLTV sales to us and the operational requirement can also be reset as per our requirement as then we might be the biggest operator of JLTV. But its all upto FM and MOD.
Yes we all know Gulf states gave $$$ and all the gear they could want but this stuff doesn't win wars and when the $hit the fan I'd rather have the IA, a real, battle tested and professional army any day other some posers.
Exactly, nothing but vulgarity. The US is the richest nation on earth but they us specialised Crown Vics and Idahos because they are excellent and practical police vehicles that the police won't be afraid of damaging in the course of their job.
