Misbah leads from the front at Lord’s

Pakistan has one of the best test sides along with South Africa in the cricketing world today. It is always a joy to watch Pakistan play test cricket. It has a good balanced batting line up with a strong and experienced middle order. The bowling is also very strong which has traditionally been Pakistan's strongest suit. There is no shortage of quality fast, swing and spin bowlers. We keep churning them out on a regular basis. Misbah is the backbone and he has on a consistent basis shown why exactly. Pakistan should keep investing in test cricket because this is the truest form of the game. T20 is entertainment and is only good for fun.

Test captain:

Misbah ul Haq is the most successful test captain of Pakistan. Misbah has led Pakistan in 42 test matches, winning 20, losing 11 with 11 draws. Misbah was named test captain after spot-fixing scandal during England tour of 2010. In subsequent series against South Africa in the UAE he led Pakistan in tests. After resignation of Shahid Afridi as test captain and suspension of Salman Butt due to spot-fixing scandal, Misbah was preferred over Younus Khan, Mohammad Yousuf and Kamran Akmal as captain.
Wasim Akram stated that although the decision was surprising if Misbah bats and fields well everything else will go according to plan.Former Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson stated that he believed Misbah has the best cricketing brain within Pakistan and he will do incredibly well in the plans for the captaincy. Misbah hit back at those who criticised the decision to appoint him captain and stated that he should be given a chance to prove himself.

ODI captain:
Misbah was the ODI captain from 2008 - 2015 and had the 10th highest success rate. He left in 2015 as captain from criticism due to his slow yet successful approach. However, after continuous international losses, notably Pakistan's exit from the 2016 ICC World Twenty20, PCB officials seriously considered asking him to return as ODI captain.

Interesting fact: Misbah has a Masters Degree in Business Administration
Misbah went past Wasim Akram, becoming the player to have the most ODI runs to his name without scoring a century.
Misbah also is the most successful Pakistan Test captain, he went past Imran Khan, who had 13 wins under his name.
Misbah equalled the record for the fastest hundred in Tests, he scored that ton in 56 balls and now jointly holds the record along with Sir Viv Richards. The feat was achieved against Australia at Abu Dhabi.

Last record is now taken by B-Mc of NZ

He is a fine player - probably the last of the classical Test batsmen to come out of South Asia - after Inzamam, Youhana and Younis Khan he is the last of his generation. With the exception of maybe Pujara - neither India, nor Pakistan nor Lanka now produce seriously good Test batsmen.

Those 90s-early 2000s batsmen were legendary. Dravid, Sangakara, Inzi etc. Now its a game of Tolibaaz (sloggers) unfortunately.

Given his age, I am wondering why he hasn't played more Tests - he should have played 100+ Tests by now.

Yes, the game has changed. The age of the defensive batsmen who can bat an entire day through all 3 sessions seems to be over.

One of the fine players who has not got the deserved credit for his contribution. He has been overshadowed by inzamams,afridi..etc

Misbah is perhaps pound for pound , and match per match the best Batsmen Pakistan produced
Had he played 150 Test matches not just mere 62 test matches , one can only imagine what his
runs tally would have been he would have likely made 12,000 runs by now

  • On Average , he played 40 less Test Matches then most Pakistani batsmen that is about80 less innings to where he is now

He was only kept out by Likes of Inzimam Ul Haq / Mohammad Yousuf /Younus Khan
Middle order combination. Then by the lack of Test cricket in Pakistan
  • He is about 600 Runs short of Zaheer Abbas's Test record
  • He is about 1300 Runs short of Salim Malik's Test record
  • He is about 3000 runs short of Mohammad Yousuf Test record
If Pakistan plays a decent Test Cricket Schedule , he can certainly pass Zaheer Abbas's record and we will see how things evolve

Possible test available in 2016

> 7 Test machetes (4 vs England , and 3 vs Australia)
> 14 Innings only

Say thanks to the internal politics of PCB, player power, groupings among players in the late 90s from which many talented players suffered and ultimately payed the price. Misbah when entered into international cricket was already in his mid 20s but those baboons sitting in PCB's selection committee always ignored merit. So that couple of bad performances were enough for Misbah to put him into a waiting list for another 5 or 7 odd years...If you remember year 2003 where three key players of Pakistani Team took retirement like Waqar, Wasim and Saeed Anwar, ideally that was the best time for Misbah ul Haq to make a come back and secure a role in batting line up and but our retarded planners kept on experimenting with below average players and Pakistani cricket paid the price heavily ....if you can recall India Pakistan Series of 2004 where Indian team first time ever beat Pakistan in a test series on Pakistani soil, had we got Mishah along with Inzi and Muhammad Yousaf, it could have been a different story, but again he was never even considered even at times when Pakistani team desperately needed a batsman who could ease of the burden from Inzamam's shoulders... Misbah got his chance when Inzi took retirement in 2007 and there was a huge gap to fill, and since than this man is continuously serving Pakistan even at age of 42...!!

Im worried about the lack of new batting talent. younus and misbah are going to retire soon. If the best we can come up with is $hit Masood then we have a problem. Maybe its time to bring Salman Butt back. Serious between Hafeez and $hit Masood we have the worst opening pair in history.

Cant wait to see Asif bowling again. If he is still his old self then what a mouth watering treat to watch him amir, Wahab and Yasir bowl together.
