SRINAGAR: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday hailed the statement of US Democratic presidential candidate, Barrack Obamas remarks in which he has emphasized the need to resolve the long-standing Kashmir dispute.
I welcome the growing interest of Barrack Obama in resolving the Kashmir dispute. The US and internationally community is gradually recognizing that resolution of Kashmir dispute was imperative for peace in south Asia, Mirwaiz told Greater Kashmir.
In an interview Obama had said, We should probably try to facilitate a better understanding between Pakistan and India and try to resolve the Kashmir crisis.
Mirwaiz said it is high time to resolve the Kashmir dispute.
Kashmiris have been offering sacrifices for the cause. The international community should consider Kashmiris as basic party to the dispute and resolve it according to their aspirations, Mirwaiz said.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz condemned the invoking of PSA on JKLF chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik and acting chairperson of Hurriyat, Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopuri and other pro-freedom leaders.
No power or pressure tactics can suppress our sacred cause. I appeal to international human rights organizations to take cognizance of the state terrorism and crackdown on pro-freedom leaders, Mirwaiz said.
