Wow great achievement. Experimenting something which is prepared in local industries already. They deserve a Nobel prize. The factories producing fertilizer from lignite coal are already working in various parts of the country.

Good poignant comment. Nitrogenous fertiliser can be produced from peat, lignite, waste from the coal fired power plants; coal converted to syngas and then used for ammonia/urea manufacture etc. One such reference regarding lignite is:

Nevertheless any research is good and should be appreciated.

It is not a question of being buried.

Firstly you have to decide whether it would be based on imported coal or lignite from Thar. Remember Thar coal is not being dug out yet! Then where to build the plant and finally the most important question “who will finance it?”

All this would take at least 5 years if you were to start tomorrow. More than likely with all the red tape and approvals it would take 10 years. If the losing party goes to court, a coal based fertilizer plant may take 15 years.

Must we be jumping with joy at this re-invention of wheel by PCSIR that fertilizer will be available at 25% of the price 15 years from now?
