Converting a manned platform into an unmanned one is poor & expensive approach towards designing UAV. Even our university Grads can built an robot arm to control helicopter via wireless connections.
The point is that UAV must be a class of its own like Predator & DOZOR; only this ensures economically feasibility of a UAV & the flexibility it can offer. Plus for extraction purposes I am not in favour of UAV as this operation (usually in the midst of firefight) requires a manned-trustworthy platform

Some captures regarding engine alignment on helis...see they are moved upwards, to reduce heat signatures to ground based threats- IR missiles(their OFTEN enemy)
