Militants attack Pakistan army post, kill nine troops

Islamabad: A Pakistani military official says Taliban militants attacked an army post near the Afghan border, killing nine soldiers.

The official says several other soldiers were wounded in the attack in the South Waziristan tribal area. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The group's spokesman, Ahsanullah Ahsan, claimed they killed 12 soldiers and beheaded some of them.
The differing accounts could not be independently verified.

South Waziristan was once the main stronghold for the Pakistani Taliban. The military launched a large offensive against militants there in 2009, but insurgents still operate in the area and periodically stage attacks.

Six soldiers killed in South Waziristan clash, ISPR confirms | DAWN.COM

PESHAWAR: Six soldiers were killed when militants attacked the Farhand Baba Ziarat check post in the area of Badar in South Waziristan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed.

In retaliation, security forces reportedly killed at least 10 militants and a dozen militants had been injured, security sources told Dawn.com.

Moreover, sources said that nine, and not six, soldiers had died in the attack.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack and said that they had killed at least a dozen soldiers.

TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said “we have killed more than a dozen soldiers in South Waziristan. Some of the soldiers have been beheaded”.

The reports of the death toll could not be confirmed from independent sources.

South Waziristan was once the main stronghold for the Pakistani Taliban. The military launched a large offensive against militants there in 2009, but insurgents still operate in the area and periodically stage attacks.

Since the attack occured Afghan border, TTP might have attacked them from Afghanistan, Pakistan has to accquire new drones, Helicopters in order to monitor the border area's, and provide close air support to troops when they are under attack, Pakistan can accquire these systems from either China or European countries.

It's about time FC and other militia was either replaced or supplemented by regular army troops to take the battle to the enemy and eliminate this nuisance occurring from across the border.
