LUKHOVITSY, May 31 (RIA Novosti) – Russian military aircraft maker MiG is to go ahead with a research-and-development project for an unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) based on its Skat prototype, after signing a deal with the Industry and Trade Ministry earlier this month, the firm said Friday.

"We signed an R&D contract for UCAVs on May 15," said MiG's head, Sergei Korotkov. "The contract requirements include a mock-up for a future UCAV for the Defense Ministry. We are already ahead on this, based on our Skat program."MiG unveiled a demonstrator model of its Skat drone at the MAKS airshow near Moscow in 2007. Skat is designed to carry out strike missions on stationary targets, especially air defense systems in high-threat areas, as well as mobile land and sea targets.Skat will operate in autonomous modes as well as in conjunction with other manned systems, MiG says.A "flying wing" design, Skat has a projected weight of 10 tons, a two-ton payload, a range of 2,500 miles (4,000 km), a speed of 500 mph (800 km/h) and a ceiling of 36,000 feet (12,000 m).

MiG also plans to sign a contract in June with the Defense Ministry for 37 MiG-35multirole fighter jets, Korotkov said, with delivery of 24 of them to take place in "the near future."The new fighters will include the Zhuk-A radar system, he said.

So it will be on the IAF list.

I think NESCOM, KRL-GIDS, PAC should also try to reach out Russian, ex-Soviet, South America, African and other Muslim countries for their drones and other products and invest the gained profits in JV with EU and China on those products which we are not making and opening R&D facilities of all kind all accross Pakistan in a Public-Private partnership.

 It's back to the good ol' 50s where the soviets copied western military equipment without shame and flew them infront of their very eyes in paris air show ; only this time the Russians have protected status like Israel and no one dares talking about them in the US

You're so funny. All 'stealth' drones look basically the same because of what they are made for. No V-tails reduces RCS, so obviously those will be removed, the serrations in the wings help control/redirect EM energy, so again that will be used, the flying wing is one of the simplest and cleanest designs, by this virtue it has less surfaces that will decrease RCS, on top of that it offers more lift and internal fuel/weapons.

So the design is of necessity. If you deviate from what I mentioned above then you will have an inferior drone.

Aerodynamics n RCS works the same in every country, hence the resemblance and why re-invent the wheel? the Americans n Europeans hv all similiar looking layout so y not go for something which seems to do just fine:) good news for MiG, i would be heart broken to see this once proud company end because of Sukhoi dominance..
