MiG 21's are not that bad.After all we have inducted around 980 MiG 21's.We can't decommission them before 2017 because it will reduce the Combat Squadron strength below 34.

my dear their service is over.they are of no use in war.
its just suicide mission for pilot.we need anna hazare for air force who can protest against these vintage machines.

There is silver lining i every Mig21crassh i.e more the IAF crashes the mig 21 more quickly it will get rid of its stocks of migs and then immediately war has to break out with mounting body bags in war and depleted planes that way ultimately govt have to buy other planes like they did immediate shopping for ammunition during kargil and govt politician and babus will make money both in coffins and military procurement.that way both politicians will be happy coz they get to make money and millitary will be happy coz they will get new shiny toys by the time war ends so that they can showcase their shiny toys on republic day parade

This should be the plan:

1. India shall maintain the inventory of its best Mig 21 aircraft. Example: Mig 21 Bison.

2. Decommission others and use them for spare parts for other aircraft or machines.

I keep hearing its Capton cables used in these old Migs even Mig-23's and An-32s have these cables. These cables are defective. Its a factory defect apparently. But these Migs where always on borrowed time.
What I find strange is the fact that fishbeds remain in service while floggers are phased out. anyone have any knowledge as to why the Mig21s where kept around while the Mig-23s are retired?

Jaipur: A MiG-21 combat aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Uttarlai airport in Rajasthan's Barmer district on Friday but the pilot ejected safely.
The plane was on a routine sortie and the incident occurred at around 11.30 AM when the pilot was preparing for landing.
The pilot, Flying Officer Amit, ejected safely, Defence PRO SD Goswami said.

A court of inquiry has been ordered, he said. This is the sixth air crash involving IAF's fighter aircraft this year and the fifth belonging to the MiG-21 series warplane.
In view of the increasing number of accidents involving the MiG-21 aircraft type, the IAF has decided to phase them out by 2017.
The force is also planning to allow only experienced fighter pilots to fly the plane from next year.
Of the total 976 MiG-21s inducted in the service since 1960s, over half of them have been lost in air crashes.

Suicide Mission?No.
There are 100's of training sorties involving them each day.IAF won't regards the MiG 21 as a potent platform & they won't retire Bison's before 2017 & others before 2012.Main problem associated with MiG 21 is it's high landing speed.

Note:Even in this accident the crash happened in the landing phase.

This is the 4th fighter crash this year not 6th.

J-7 may be may not be supirior to migs but on thing is sure IAF pilots are the worst pilots in the world with more than 1000 crashes under their belt.must be a record in itself.
