Some examples of office interior work done by Zero Inch Interiors Dhaka.
Zero Inch Interiors was hired for a new office design for a renowned electrical company Milon Metal Engg. in Nawabpur,Old Dhaka. The concept came from a unique feature of Dhaka city. Our city streets are filled with wire networks arranged in criss-cross ways. That’s what we tried to portray within the office design. The material usage varied according to the quality of space. For instance - we used veneer board in the reception area, MDF & Particle Board was used in the meeting room, M.D room & work-stations. We also worked on details of the various ways of suspending false ceiling. The suspending element was also made keeping in mind the diagonal or criss-cross way of how telephone network lines hang in Dhaka city. The scheme was based on a dynamic approach. The color palette was mainly white which was contrasted with a wooden-brown palette. Smooth & rough textures were created through walls , thus providing a 3D effect on 2D planes.
The office for People’s Radio is located at the posh mixed-use area of Gulshan in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The office is surrounded by other commercial high-rises. The client is the CEO of the People’s Radio. At first, it was just another congested office space, without any properly designed or designated spaces. After a while, the CEO realized that he needed a professional to design & construct a proper office to suit the needs & requirements of a radio station.
He told us that the team at his office includes a group of creative, fun-loving, not-so-formal individuals, so their working space should reflect that personality. The program of this office design included work-stations for 15 people, reception room and waiting lobby, design for CEO & MD rooms, a brainstorming room which is used by 5 or more numbers of people to brainstorm for ideas, two other conference rooms, on-air rooms, accounts department, casual room for RJ, which is mostly used when celebrities come to the station & the RJ sits with the celebrity to rehearse the up-coming interview or to revise the interview questions. The project had a ground coverage of 2500 square feet.
Design ideas/ inspiration/concept:
Main inspiration for this office was derived from the different properties of a radio wave, which is a type of electromagnetic radiation. For example, in a ripple tank experiment, if we place a spherical source, then circular waves are formed. We were inspired by this form of wave & tried to use this form in various parts of the space. Moreover, when a group of people stand together in a crowd, we can see a composition of circles from the bird’s eye view, so since the station’s name is People’s Radio, we tried to use that sub-concept of a number of people standing in group; we tried to bring that composition in our work.
We played with the idea of creating informal spaces within a formal interior office space. For example, in the lift lobby area, there is a wall with large sized peep-holes, that intrigues outsiders, anyone who stops at that floor, peeps through the wall to look into the reception area. The reception desk is custom designed & custom made furniture so that it looks like a transistor radio.
