Middle East in the Olympics

You can visit those two threads below and see more for yourself. KSA alone is the size of Western Europe.

KSA has all type of landscapes that I can think of currently (desert (all kind of deserts - sand, volcanic, rock, more fertile deserts, volcanic areas, mountainous areas (half of the country is mountainous), 3000 km of mostly tropical coastline, over 1000 islands, steppe, tropical areas, agricultural lands, lowland etc. Expect for permanent lakes but we have 1000's upon 1000's of wadis that are "alive" most of the year. Instead of permanent lakes we have some of the best coastline out there and marine life. The Red Sea being famous for having the second largest coral reef in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia for instance.

Actually KSA is one of the most underrated countries in the world but there is a lot of ignorance involved here and due to the political situation in the region anything Muslim, Arab or ME is out. 30-40 years ago it was "fashionable" and "cool". Of course I am talking about the Western viewpoint not that I care about it.

Anyway this thread needed some spice and trolling. No hard feelings.

Anyway don't expect much from Arab countries due to the reasons that I have mentioned before. Iran and Turkey will probably do much better due to you having much better policies and focus on your favorite sports

I did take a look at the pictures and again i really didn't expect that much of diversity. In fact I thought SA only consists of deserts. There are some pretty shots.

In case you didn't see it, check out my last post again. Good night. :d

I know that you are an uneducated Poorsian Gypsy with a very poor command of English but I will tro to make it very simple and quick for you.

People from today's KSA created 3 of the 11 largest empires (Rashidun, Umayyad, Abbasid) in human history. More than any other ethnicity in the top 15. Those empires were bigger and more influential than anything that you have ever created. They stretched from Southern France (Pyrenees) to Western China. What "your" forefathers created (after all those conquests of your impoverished country by numerous nations and peoples, let alone population movements we can seriously question if they were even your ancestors to begin with) is not comparable and aside from that it was a very cheap copy of much more ancient Semitic civilizations found in today's Arab world which you learnt civilization from. As I already mentioned earlier and which is well-known by every historian.

The legacy of my ancestors is the Arab world that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the West to the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea in the East. An landmass that is over 10 times bigger than your Mullahstan.

As for your sexual fantasies, I am afraid that I cannot help you with that nor with your lively fantasy.

As for wealth, every literate fool is able to look at the GDP (nominal) per capita of both countries and draw his own conclusions or the actual infrastructure, living standards, HDI etc. Of course I do not expect illiterate migrants to know anything about such topics.

We Arabs have an entire SEA named after us which is 10 times bigger than "your" tiny Gulf. Aside from your country being an "Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman country" already. Or the fact that we Arabs have 100 times more geographical areas named after us than your likes. From the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean, Red Sea, Arabian Sea etc.

Don't worry, Arabs look down on you much more than vice versa. Don't worry about that.

As for snow, which I personally hate, there is plenty in Northern KSA (almost the size of your little impoverished country) during winter.

As I said Gypsy, remember who changed your religion, language (half of your language is the superior Arabic), alphabet, DNA and almost everything in between. Who is the master in the relationship. It's lasted for 1400 years now. Also don't forget to bow down in you know what direction as a good Poorsian boy.

Don't forget that Saddam alone dealt with 1 million of you subhumans. You must be the result of some birth complications involving certain chemicals, if you know what I mean.

@waz literally right after your post this guy comes in starts making extremely racist, bigoted and inflammatory comments.

Finally,first Turkish medal in.
Weightlifting 69kg ,Daniyar Ismailov silver medal.

Our boy is obviously the best at Snatch (the 1st part of the weightlifting competition) but a little bit lagging behind his rivals at the Clean and Jerk. It was the same at the world championship last year where he won a bronze medal with a gold at the Snatch and a 5th place in the C&J. This time he looked really good prepared even better then he and his trainers thought he was and he had room for a little bit more kilograms to lift in both lifts- that way he could have run with the gold... but anyway I can't blame him and his coaches for not being more risky and confident as the Olympics are the biggest competition for most athletes and the pressure is great. Still a silver is good for him as he is a young guy.

So congrats for our first medal in the Games, the whole day was mostly positive today with a win in female basketball and a win in boxing. Hope much more medals will come in the next days.

My hopes are in wrestling,Taekwando and maybe athletics, all the rest would be a surprise.

Two wrongs do not make a right, (expletive).

Yes, my name is Amir. Well done. And it is taken from the title of Hazrat Ali (AS). Got a problem with that? I am not racist unlike you so I don't care if its an Arabic name.

I never said that did I? However I loved how you omitted your compatriots posts (same type of posts) and the fact that he was the instigator and the one who started getting personal. Not me. However, as I wrote, no hard feelings and we are over it. Do you think that I take this forum seriously whenever I receive such answers? I just found your post pathetic and did you seriously think that anyone would look at that post differently than what I described in my reply?

Well, then you seem to belong to the minority of your compatriots here. Who said that it was a problem? I am only racist if my opponent is racist. Similarly if you hit me I will hit back.

As for weightlifting, that sport only appears to be popular/have a sizable following among ex-Soviet republics and Iran and Turkey in the ME. I am not trying to be rude here but it appears to be a marginal sport worldwide. For instance in the Arab world, it is as popular as archery and canoeing. The point should be clear. However I see a very big potential for that sport in the Arab world if it ever becomes more than an very marginal sport. I guess its about traditions even if they are only fairly recent ones.

In general I think that the only chance for ME countries to dominate anything or a sports category is to pick less popular sports. Small countries like South Korea, Hungary etc. have done that successfully in the past when it comes to archery, water polo, canoeing etc. In fact they still are among the very best in those disciplines today. I don't know but it could be a strategy for less populous countries.

I prefere turkish and western cuisine over iranian. I do not like rice.

:o::o::o::o::o:

ghormeh sabzi? gheymeh? chelo kabab? fesenjoon? you'd take a burger over those?

They got deleted. I cannot tell who started what.

Check for yourself...

Who said that it was a problem?

You brought it up. You even suggested I change my name.

I am only racist if my opponent is racist.
Great logic there.

Similarly

I guess you could call it similar, you are entitled to your opinion. But I see Racism as the absolute lowest thing anyone can say. I don't think responding to something can justify Racism.

Congrats :partay:

Iran waiting for the big boys to come in. We dominate the heavy weight weightlifting.

What do you guys feed those boys with so they grow so big, strong and hairy (like a real man is supposed to be!)? :D
Hossein Rezazadeh is one of my favorite weightlifters and I really respect him... especially because he is Azeri. He was dominating the heaviest class in those competitions back in the days and I remember how in last Olympics two of your guys took 1st and 2nd place in the same category. One of them was Behdad Salimi and I don't remember the other one as his name was too complicated. :D There was also a guy named Kianoush Roustami but he is competing in lighter category and won a silver or bronze in London. I remember that a Polish guy won the gold back then and the other medal was won by a Russian guy from Northern Caucasus named Apti Aukhadov (who is also a favorite of mine because he has the same first name as my father and is the second person in the world that I hear having this exact name :D).

On the other hand Turkey was dominating the lightest categories back in the days (before ching chongs took over them with using better drugs than others :D ) and the most interesting fact about it is that all 7 gold medals won by Turkish male weightlifters in Olympic games are won by guys born in Bulgaria- Naim Suleymanoglu, Halil Mutlu (both with 3 Olympic titles and probably some of the biggest legends of the sport) and Taner Sagir (who was one of the biggest talents in the 77kg category and became an Olympic champion at 19 but retired at age of 23 because of a spinal injury). They are all born in the same region- Kardzali/Kırcaali and migrated to Turkey when Bulgarian Turks were expelled by the Bulgarian Communist regime in the 80's.

Did not know about that.

I believe so when the details, as I explained them to be and as it could be seen by everyone before those posts were apparently deleted, are known.

Because of the nature of your initial comment. If you, as you wrote yourself, consider racism to be "the absolute lowest thing anyone can say", it surprises me that you only tagged my post and not that of your compatriot when he started that kind of discussion and the initial provocation. Not me. Not only that, I saw a few unmotivated racist posts that he wrote to @alarabi in a few other threads and alarabi never replied in a racist manner. However there are no problems and nothing, from my part, is being taken seriously on PDF in this regard. So I have no problem with insults aimed at me or Arabs. As long as I am allowed to reply in a similar fashion to the provocation/insults.

Nothing to do with any logic but it is a normal human reaction. If somebody walks up to you (say a person from Congo) and calls you racial slurs you will have a natural tendency to reply in a similar fashion. Or return the favor in kind if a person throws a bunch at you. You might belong to the small minority of people who act as they should all the time and who never commit such type of mistakes on the internet or in real life. I do not know about that. Never mind we are wasting our time on irrelevant issues.

My hopes are in wrestling,Taekwando and maybe athletics, all the rest would be a surprise.

Mine too... If there will be surprises they will probably come from Boxing where I hope someone to overachieve or Judo where we have only one woman competitor left but she is our strongest one- Kayra Sayit who became a European champion this year and can fight for a medal if well prepared and having some luck. Even a bronze from these sports will be a good achievement for our athletes.

I hope for 2 medals in Taekwondo with Servet Tazegul fighting for a gold and Nur Tatar fighting at least for a medal after her silver medal in the last Olympics.

In wrestling Taha Akgul and Riza Kayaalp being world champions and a top wrestlers in the heaviest categories of the freestyle and the Greco Roman style in the last couple years a gold medal will be the goal for them. A medal or two can come from some of our other 12 wrestlers there if we have some luck and try be as motivated as possible.

We have a big athletic delegation there but it will be hard to get a medal with countries like the USA, Kenya, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Britain, France, Germany and all other countries from Europe, Africa and the Caribbean joining the event. Our athletes did great in the Euro championship last month but it's easier on European level compared to the Olympics so it won't be a surprise if we don't win a medal here.

If everything goes well we can win multiple gold medals and have our best Games from a lot of time but let's keep our expectations lower... that way we wouldn't be disappointed if we underachieve as anything can happen on such a big competition as the Summer Olympics. Let's just hope we have some luck, our guys stay motivated and God helps us!

Then ya abalfalz and:

You know a lot more about weightlifting than I do :D

o_O I suggest a better description.

I don't want to offend any southeastern/eastern asian member of the forum with these words as I have respect for them... It was just a small inappropriate joke not an insult like the words some other members here used when arguing earlier today. No, no, no... :astagh:

Israel wins first Olympic medal since 2008

After eight years, the wait is finally over.

Israel won its first Olympic medal since 2008 on Tuesday after Yarden Gerbi claimed a bronze medal in the women’s under-63 kilogram judo competition at the Rio games.

She became the fourth Israeli judoka to take an Olympic medal, joining Yael Arad (silver medal – Barcelona 1992), Oren Smadja (bronze – Barcelona 1992) and Arik Ze’evi (bronze – Athens 2004). Israel’s four other medals came courtesy of Gal Fridman (bronze – Atlanta 1996, gold - Athens 2004), Michael Kolganov (bronze – Sydney 2000) and Shahar Zubari (bronze – Beijing 2008). Gerbi also became just the second Israeli woman to win a medal, joining Arad.

Gerbi received a bye into the second round on Tuesday where she faced Cuba’s Maricet Espinosa. She found herself in an early hole after Espinosa registered a yuko, the smallest score that can be awarded, with 3:25 minutes remaining. However, she bounced back and secured the win with 1:24 minutes left, pinning down Espinosa for 15 seconds, earning her an ippon, judo’s version of a knockout.

The quarterfinal against Brazil’s Mariana Silva began in a festive atmosphere, with the locals and the Israeli fans cheering their representatives. Gerbi needed to receive treatment with 2:20 to go after getting hit in her mouth and beginning to bleed.

With no score being registered in five minutes, the battle went into golden score in which the first judoka to get on the board wins. Gerbi thought she deserved at least a yuko on a couple of occasions, but the Australian referee questionably chose to ignore her attacks. After 1:58 minutes of golden score, Silva registered a yuko and progressed to the last four.

Gerbi recovered and beat China’s Junxia Yang in her first bout in the repechage before overcoming Japan’s Miku Tashiro in the battle for the bronze, registering a yuko and a waza-ari for a convincing win.

Gerbi will receive a bonus of NIS 250,000 from the Olympic Committee of Israel. She was considered to be one of the delegation’s best medal hopes in Rio, but had experienced several near misses in recent major events. After claiming a gold medal at the 2013 Worlds and a silver in the event the following year, she ended last year’s edition, as well as this year’s European Championships, in fifth place, losing in the bouts for the bronze medal.

Elsewhere, Maayan Davidovich climbed up to fifth place in the women’s RS:X windsurfing competition on Tuesday. Davidovich ended the fourth race of the competition in 11th place, but finished the fifth in fourth and the sixth in third, taking her to a total of 35 points.

Flavia Tartaglini of Italy leads the competition with 24 points, with Davidovich a mere eight points from Stefaniya Elfutina of Russia in third place.

The windsurfers will enjoy a rest day on Wednesday before racing three more times on Thursday. There will be 12 races in total before the top 10 take part in the medal race on August 14 to determine final positions.

Also Tuesday, Dudi Sela, ranked at No. 65 in the world, lost to world No. 13 David Goffin of Belgium 6-3, 6-3.

Sela was the first Israeli man to participate in the singles event at the Olympics since Gilad Bloom in Barcelona 1992.

Meanwhile, teenage swimmer Ziv Kalontarov finished the men’s 100-meter freestyle heats in 45th place out of 59, registering a time of 50.65 seconds.
