Samsung used to manufacture for Apple before Samsung started their own based on Apple's design. The lawsuit is still ongoing.

what do you mean by design? Apple only assembles, where as samsung does proper research in producing chips analog circuits.. ADC DAC , led, light sensors, communication bands, etc. The proper Fabrication, testing and then production from scratch. Samsung's too ahead.

So does all companies in China, they only assemble the parts and nothing more.

It's not about the shape and app of the mobile or how good it will look or it has 5 mp camera.

I think he meant the designs of apple devices. Apple designs their products in US and get manufacturing done in china. You need to give credit to apple for the first iPhone and iPod, as well as their iOS, as groundbreaking products. Everything else is just improvement on existing design though. its true they spend far less money on R&D than their counterparts, but they are catching up. give another 5-8 years.

Developing a technology is different from producing devices, assembling them. Of course there are engineers who test and design the best out put in apple of an overall product.

simple the cpu of apple products are from ARM and manufactured by Samsung. What apple does, it only asks them we want this type of functions on an IC and xyzGhz may be the speed.

The Micro architecture of the chip is the brain which is designed by ARM.

that's because apple is software company, not hardware. From day one, they have focused on designing, not manufacturing hardware and it has served them pretty well. So there is no need for them to manufacture their own hardware when its cheaper to buy from other companies.
Besides..there are rumors that apple wants to ditch Intel and produce their own chips. So it seems apple wants to try hardware way as well.

But to ditch intel, apple has to produce that level of Fabrication facility and technology. TI, Samsung, TSMC, Global Foundries, etc.. they are highly advanced. And without the help of their basic tech, Apple cannot produce. More over just one FAB costs billion dollars.

Not any more. They have opened their manufacturing units in India and planing to open more. Indian manufacuring units produces cheaper and better quality phones

Apple is not short oncash. They have hard cash lying around. They have been left behind because of money they spend on R&D. Give them some time, if they really focused, i think they can catch up to other major players.
