Miandad fears India will pip Pak in race for China market

KARACHI: With the Pakistan Cricket Board dragging its heel, former captain Javed Miandad is afraid that India may capture cricket's next big market in China.

Miandad, now a PCB Director-General and also Pakistan government's cricket ambassador to China, has been repeatedly asking Board chairman Ejaz Butt to be pro-active to establish cricketing ties with China and is miffed at the cold response.

"Miandad is worried that with the PCB not taking the issue seriously other Asian countries like India and Bangladesh will establish a stronghold in the Chinese market and have stronger cricketing ties with China," a well-informed source said.

Miandad wants PCB to develop infrastructure in China and provide technical assistance, free equipment and coaching to the Chinese players.

"Miandad believes that with cricket slowly gaining popularity there, in a few years time China is bound to be a big market for the sport and offers infinite possibilities in many areas including trade and sports good business," the source said.

He said Miandad was very upset recently when he learnt that the BCCI had arranged a training tour for the Chinese women players in Mohali.

Miandad apparently wants the government to help construct a top standard stadium in China which can be used to host Pakistan's home matches if the security situation does not improves in the country.

Miandad is one of the greats of cricket but is issuing amusing statements.

It would be great if Pakistan and China could build good ties in terms of Cricket. Then we can have

India V/s Pakistan V/s China tri-series which will rock Asia

Whats amusing about his statement. Indeed if our cricket officials do not heed to Chinese cricket needs someone else will avail the chance.

He is upset because the event was offered to PCB but our pathetic officials are of no use as usual they have missed the opportunity.
