What's new

Mi-17 down, 26 troops martyred

Let's see if any of the militant groups claim the responsibility.

Of course they will - they take responsibility even when they don't do anything.

I have lost track of how many choppers Hekmetyar claims to have shot down and hundreds of US soldiers he claims to have killed in Afghanistan.

That said, there is always a possibility that the chopper did crash due to hostile fire. Not sure what the availability of SAM's to the militants is. The Taliban reportedly kept a few when they were in control in Afghanistan, but I would think that were they frequent in number or usable, they would have been used already in the last eight or so years, especially against ISAF.

Trying to take out the choppers with RPG's and AA guns seems to be the preferred option for the militants, going by some of the combat accounts released.

Task bezerk to find out the truth, i am also asking whom i know. As for now, what i can tell you is that it was not due to the enemy SA or RPG fire. There is info that i might not be able to tell now (let it be released on media first) that tells us very clearly that it was not shot down. Wait and see.

well earlier jeo was reporting too that the heli has been fired upon by the militants and contact with it has been broken but then latter on they said it crashed due to technical fault.

Is it possible that the heli may actually been shot down and news is on purpose being hidden after all a heli being shot down in your own country is a very embarrassing news.

Alright - we have a few people who can look into it, and hopefully the information largely matches.

It's always possible, but ISPR may not be able to confirm till it retrieves the wreckage. In the meantime, why allow the militants to get a propaganda boost when it may very well have been a technical fault.

Issue the correction, if needed, after the investigation is over.

Dear Ice.

How can a heli crash "in your own country" where an operation is underway can be "a very embarrassing news"?

Xeric no offense i was talking about being shot down in your own country. I mean come on where else do we see helis being shot down within your every own borders.
Also this shows how well prepared these militants are and certainly like many have expressed concerns, they are definitely getting help from across the border.

Very sad news,

May give them janat firdus and give their families patience to bear this loss.

Heli can be easily gun down by LMG in mountain area ,my relative served as army pilot told me few days back.

I never felt low and heartbreaking since operation started till today. I came across this news much before posted in this forum but couldn’t muster the courage to post it here.

We lost 26 finest men of our country in one single crash. Dreadful news indeed .

May Allah bless all shaheeds and their families..... Ameen

Inshallah final victory will be ours.

ISLAMABAD - The Taliban Friday claimed to have shot down a Pakistan Army helicopter in the country’s lawless tribal region, a media report said.

A spokesman for the Islamic militants told Sama television that the Taliban had also captured the pilot of the helicopter gunship.

If the claim is correct, it could be the first helicopter brought down by the Taliban in Pakistan.

However, a military spokesman denied the claim. “The helicopter crashed in the Orkzai tribal district due to a technical fault,” Major General Athar Abbas said.

Wonder what took then so long to 'submit' the claim and that too to Sama TV.

Support the Troops not the insurgency!! these soldiers are the reason you sleep at night

Sir this website appears very BR type to me. But Talebs were going to claim this in any case.

IMO, it could have been definitely due to technical fault. Seems less likely to me that they would have risked flying it under firing-range of enemies. And if it is to be true that talebans brought it down, would it not be due to some kind of shoulder fired missile, and that would definitely point to some "outside help".

And It could be a dangerous possibility if talebans say that they have captured the injured pilot as the helicopter crashed in hostile area.
