A memorial ceremony has been held in Fukushima for the late Chinese laborers forced to work in Japan during WWII.

The ceremony was held in front of a monument for the 25 laborers who died in Fukushima while forced to work there under harsh conditions.

According to historical data, roughly 39,000 Chinese laborers were abducted to Japan and forced to work in many parts of Japan during the Japanese invasion into China.

Around 1000 of them were forced to work on construction sites of hydroelectric power stations in Fukushima.

I was rather impressed that CCTV had an article on this , it's a good sign. This was covered in Asahi as well as various media sources and also local prefecture news channels. In attendance were LDP councillors and members of the Japan-China Associations. This is actually a good sign and I hope Japan erects more of such shrines for Chinese as well as Koreans who were brought to Japan against their will.

The spirits of the dead are eternal; and the prayers for their repose , am sure, is like water quenching one's thirst. Let us always keep their memory , and pray for them.

In this, Japan must never forget what she had done to the innocent people from China and Korea. Only in honoring them, can we really start to heal....
