Meet the Su-57 ‘Lite’: Russia Working on Single Engine Next Generation Fighter to Compete with America’s F-35

Luftwaffe certainly believed that MiG-29 had very limited useability.
The main advantage it had was the helmet mounted sight, but with this adopted for Western aircraft this is now questionable.
Since the F-16V is available as an upgrade kit and it has been ordered by several countries including Greece and Taiwan, your comment lacks importance.
and your comment has no importance at all, and thank you for trolling

Now Russia is no longer the same magnitude of threat posed during the Cold War but is still nonetheless one of the two great military dangers facing the US (the other being China).

Basically, any country other than the US, even Britain, can be a serious threat to US. Britain is still sour about losing US after signing Treaty of Paris having lost the war against France. One day, if US is weak, Britain will attack the US and retake its former territory.

.
Only European Russia would be considered in a future war ... a huge chunk of Russia is Siberia which is not relevant unless China decides to attack or something.

Russia has to watch out for Japan which lays claim to Kuril islands. Of course, with a powerful Chinese presence in the Pacific, Russia can afford to concentrate all military might in the west to ward off a joint American German invasion.

My dear brother...trust me sometimes its better to just call it a day and hang your boxing gloves.

Russina design philosophy is very different to western.
Sure the western engine TBO is much better and quality higher but if you look at how Russia weapons are designed their emphasis is on numbers and getting the job done.
Western design philosophy is different.
However that doesn't mean that the engines are no capable.

Ps I am having a little fun with our friend @Trailer23

The Russians are very very good at using brute force to get as much power out of something as possible (at the cost of increased wear and tear). Think of them as US V8 muscle cars vs a Porsche. You look under the hood and see a monstrosity of add-on craziness vs an elegant solution. Even their rocket engines are notorious for being crazy.

Russia is reportedly developing a single engine 5th gen fighter jet. Could this be an alternative to the Chinese j-35??
They abandoned single engine back in the 80's in favour of 2 engines across both bureaus.

Firstly Russians have no money; to initiate a single engine project is huge undertaking; given plethora of single engines - used/new - to sell something in the league of F16/Gripen etc; is now competeing against their own Migs/Su offerings.

.
Distance Moscow Vladivostok is about same as distance Anchorage Miami. No way Russians will make single engine fighter jet. It won't have the required range to cover Russia.

Could I compare modern Russian Avionics vs China Avionics? no because China is world leader in electronics such as chips, semi conductors, etc... Shenzen alone has more electronic tech than all of Russia combined.

Russia is still ahead in Engine technology but the Chinese are catching up fast.

From Pakistans prospective it doesnt make much sense to go for Russian jets. Sure relations with Russia are the best ever they been and are even getting much better, but Russia doesnt provide much benefit militarily to Pakistan than they are already providing:

1) Pakistan already has access to the latest Russian engine technology vis via the RD-93 on the JF-17. 150+ have already been bought with a potential for another 150+ of the latest RD-93M block.

2) Russian jets dont offer much benefit to the PAF in the form of Radar or Missile tech. Pakistan has access to the latest Chinese AESA radar and future variants. We already have the latest SD-10B missiles and are set to get the PL-15. Russia simply has nothing that can compete with such Systems for Pakistan to gain from.

3) Russia is already providing weapons to the Pakistani army. Examples include the Mi-17s already in service, Mi-35 that we bought, RPG-29 that we produce under license, and the Kornet anti-tank missile. Let alone the small arms, bullet proof vests, and other equipment that the army has bought from Russia in the last few years. All of these are force multipliers against their own Russian supplied weapons to the Indian army such as the T-90 and BMP-2. Pakistan army has 300+ T-80UDs that will be due for upgrades within the next few years which Russia is expected to be the prime contractor for. Simply put Russia has filled key capability gaps within the Pakistan army in the last few years for which they were useful.

Many members discuss large weapons such as jets, tanks, subs, etc... while forgetting our soldiers fight with guns, vests, night visions, radio, anti-tank weapons, grenade launchers, etc... all of which Russia has top notch weaponery which can be produced under license in Pakistan such as the AK-15 which suits the PA perfectly for its next generation rifle.

4) Russian and Pakistani forces are training together at the highest level ever. Special forces, armored equipment, etc... Military excersises and coordination vis via afghanistan are at an all time high.

The conclusion from all these points is that the Pakistani military has already evaulated its options vis via weaponery from Russia and has concluded that Russia can fill key capabilities for the Pakistani army but not its Navy/Airforce which will continue to rely heavily on Chinese weapons.

Good riddance to the Thousands of 1970s T-72s of the Indian army against the latest Kornet E of Pakistan :D

Russia is very strong in electronics too. Russian ships and planes and tanks have AESA.

I am not saying they are good but in comparison to the west or China they are still behind by a few decades. The recent azeri-armenian conflict is a perfect example. Russian made radars were jammed, Russian jammers were ineffective and jammed themselves.

Russians have a different philosophy of fighting a war. Most of their conflict is against much smaller neighbors who they can easily overwhelm. Even against NATO/Nazi Germany their military strategy relies on a scorched earth human/mechanized wave approach.

The west and now China rely more on precision warfare.

Russia stopped Azerbaijan taking Karabakh. It says a lot about Russian technology right there. Azerbaijan never dared to fight Russia for Karabakh.

THEY are struggling to produce Su-57 and you're talking Russian counterpart of F-35??? and they denied Su-35 in past to Pakistan, so why they offer new their light 5th gen jet to Pakistan?????

Russia had some MoU with UAE for development of single engine bird, it could be light 5th gen bird.
