Could I compare modern Russian Avionics vs China Avionics? no because China is world leader in electronics such as chips, semi conductors, etc... Shenzen alone has more electronic tech than all of Russia combined.
Russia is still ahead in Engine technology but the Chinese are catching up fast.
From Pakistans prospective it doesnt make much sense to go for Russian jets. Sure relations with Russia are the best ever they been and are even getting much better, but Russia doesnt provide much benefit militarily to Pakistan than they are already providing:
1) Pakistan already has access to the latest Russian engine technology vis via the RD-93 on the JF-17. 150+ have already been bought with a potential for another 150+ of the latest RD-93M block.
2) Russian jets dont offer much benefit to the PAF in the form of Radar or Missile tech. Pakistan has access to the latest Chinese AESA radar and future variants. We already have the latest SD-10B missiles and are set to get the PL-15. Russia simply has nothing that can compete with such Systems for Pakistan to gain from.
3) Russia is already providing weapons to the Pakistani army. Examples include the Mi-17s already in service, Mi-35 that we bought, RPG-29 that we produce under license, and the Kornet anti-tank missile. Let alone the small arms, bullet proof vests, and other equipment that the army has bought from Russia in the last few years. All of these are force multipliers against their own Russian supplied weapons to the Indian army such as the T-90 and BMP-2. Pakistan army has 300+ T-80UDs that will be due for upgrades within the next few years which Russia is expected to be the prime contractor for. Simply put Russia has filled key capability gaps within the Pakistan army in the last few years for which they were useful.
Many members discuss large weapons such as jets, tanks, subs, etc... while forgetting our soldiers fight with guns, vests, night visions, radio, anti-tank weapons, grenade launchers, etc... all of which Russia has top notch weaponery which can be produced under license in Pakistan such as the AK-15 which suits the PA perfectly for its next generation rifle.
4) Russian and Pakistani forces are training together at the highest level ever. Special forces, armored equipment, etc... Military excersises and coordination vis via afghanistan are at an all time high.
The conclusion from all these points is that the Pakistani military has already evaulated its options vis via weaponery from Russia and has concluded that Russia can fill key capabilities for the Pakistani army but not its Navy/Airforce which will continue to rely heavily on Chinese weapons.
Good riddance to the Thousands of 1970s T-72s of the Indian army against the latest Kornet E of Pakistan
