Close to 100 days since the first incendiary kite was launched from the Gaza Strip toward Israel causing fires to ravage the south, the IDF has deployed a system that can spot incendiary aerial devices launched from the Gaza Strip, track them and direct firefighters to where they land.

“Since its deployment, Sky Spotter has helped detect and track dozens of terror kites and incendiary balloons that have been flown from the Gaza Strip into Israel,” read a statement by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems provided to The Jerusalem Post.

Sky Spotter is an advanced Passive Early Warning system that includes sensitive optical sensors with command and control software for real-time monitoring of the sky and allows operators to identify objects from one kilometer to tens of kilometers away.

The primary source of input of the Sky Spotter system is the FLIR Wide Field of View (WFOV) sensor, which persistently monitors the landscape within its field of view, day and night. Any object that disrupts the constant scenery would be detected by the system, which then uses a set of image processing algorithms that can determine what the object is.

According to Rafael, the FLIR WFOV sensor is reinforced with Narrow Field of View (NFOV) multispectral investigation sensors that act as telescopes and allow the operator to zoom into targets to verify and track them.

Once a suspected target is identified, such as a kite or a balloon, the system’s control panel displays each one with a red dot. The information is then shared with firefighters who head to where the device landed in order to put out the fire before it spreads.

“When connected to Rafael’s Drone Dome (Rafael’s system for early detection and neutralization of small aerial targets, such as drones), the integrated system also enables interception of the targets using a high-power laser beam,” read the statement by Rafael.

The operator is able to manage up to four separate sensors at the same time, each with two channels, allowing them to track and manage multiple targets simultaneously.

Gazans have been protesting along the border with Israel since March 30 as part of what organizers have called the “Great March of Return.” Over 130 Palestinian protesters have been killed by IDF fire and thousands more injured.

Demonstrators have launched hundreds of kites, balloons and helium-filled latex condoms with incendiary and explosive devices on a daily basis into Israeli territory, sparking dozens of fires that have destroyed thousands of acres of farmland, parks and forests.

Israeli leaders have been split on how to respond to those launching the aerial incendiary devices, with some politicians calling on the IDF to shoot at those who launch them on site.

Other Israeli officials are concerned that if the arson attacks don’t stop it could lead to an escalation that would lead to another military operation against terrorist groups in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.

The IDF has called in reservists to help civilian firefighters battle the flames and has carried out air strikes against empty vehicles used by those launching the kites as well as fired warning shots against cells launching the devices.

So you need to spend thousands on stopping kites?

'Terror kites' someone hand me a barf bag... Death to the Zionist state with its fascist society, fascist leaders and fascist ideology. Murderers, thieves, most sick nation on earth.
Yeah, we're the one sending explosives on a birthday ballon

You're the ones who rain bombs down on civilian areas while claiming there's 'terrorists' there, ignoring the fact that attacking an occupying force is resistance under international law not terrorism. Your country was created by literal terrorists, via acts of terror committed by Begin/Shamir and their bloody gangs. No country on earth is as disgusting as this supremacist state of Israel, not even the horrid filth it allies itself with in the Gulf.

Target practice on kids, denying humanitarian aid to Gaza, 'rationing' their food supplies, settlers with IDF cover burning olive groves. Jesus, the day this country disintegrates thanks to what an unsustainable project it is, is the day true peace can be worked toward in the region and the world.

Shooting kids in the face etc. Apartheid etc. Crimes of the terrorist state never end.

Terror kites LMAO

These filthy Zionist scum do make me laugh sometimes.

Take over land, imprison them, destroy their olive trees and polute their water supply....And then call them terrorists.

I reckon when they finally get what they deserve Hitler's concentration camps won't seem as bad....

A better, and certainty more inexpensive way to deal with these jihadi terror kites would be to just snipe the jihadi flying the kite.

Just remember, shooting kids in the face is what Israelis love to do, not fight actual proper military foes. With their enemies growing militarily progressively stronger, I can't wait for the kind of erratic behaviour this terrorist state is going to start demonstrating.

May this Jewish-supremacist cancer be eradicated.

Complete bullshit, Israel fought major wars with several arab armies, unlike Pakistan, it actually won those wars.
If you don't know the history, atleast don't lie about it.

Israel fought wars which, aside from 1973 (although it was fought to regain Israeli-annexed land), it started with pre-planning against poorly equipped Arab armies which had not the ability to provide a military threat to Israel. Israeli generals admitted this after 1967 when that war - started by bombing Nasser's airforce jets while they were on the ground - was launched to annex more territory. 1948 as a 'war' was mostly accomplished via Hagannah, Irgun and the other terrorist groups shooting up civilian areas and massacring unarmed people after which a few Arab 'armies' - from states very close to the British - merely claimed parts of adjacent land to ensure the Jews didn't take them. Israel's propaganda about fighting off 'larger enemies' was bullcrap from the get go. The Arab armies didn't even outnumber them for most of the conflicts.

The moment Israel met serious resistance, it lost. For example, in 2006 Hezbollah kicked its *** and then Israel like the psycho fascist state it is had to bombard civilian areas to feel good about itself. Terrorist stat.

HIGH COURT TEMPORARILY SUSPENDS RAZING OF BEDOUIN VILLAGE KHAN AL-AHMAR
The Supreme Court injunction gave the state until July 11 to respond to the villagers' contention that they had been unfairly denied building permits.

The illegal Palestinian Bedouin herding village of Khan Al-Ahmar received a last minute reprieve late Thursday night when the High Court of Justice issued a temporary injunction just as the IDF had begun preparation for its demolition.

The United Nations and the European Union had appealed to the Israeli government to halt the destruction of the village, located on state land off Route 1 near the Kfar Adumim settlement.

Its fate, along with that of the illegal Palestinian herding village of Sussiya, has been debated in the UN Security Council, the UN Human Rights Council and the British Parliament.

International reaction against the decision intensified after IDF bulldozers began arriving at the village on Wednesday to open up dirt roads for bulldozers and trucks.

In response a number of European countries, including Great Britain, submitted a formal letter of protest to Israel.

Such movement came to a halt after the High Court injunction. The court gave the state until July 11 to respond to the villagers' contention that they had been unfairly denied building permits, lawyer Alaa Mahajna told Reuters.

Previous appeals to the court against state plans to destroy the village and its adjacent school had failed.

Israel said it plans to relocate the 52 families to permanent homes near a landfill about 12 kilometers away, near the Palestinian village of Abu Dis.

The families, who are part of the Jahalin tribe, were relocated by Israel in the early 1950s from the Beersheba area to the West Bank, which at the time was under Jordanian rule.

On Thursday the UN said that Israel has increased its activities against West Bank Palestinian and Bedouin herding villages since July 1, removing at least 19 structures and displacing 59 Bedouins and Palestinians, including 37 children.

Nine of the tents and shacks that were razed were located in the Palestinian Bedouin village of Abu Nuwar, located near Khan Al-Ahmar.

One home was destroyed in the illegal Palestinian village of Sussiya, according to the UN.

West Bank UNRWA head Scott Anderson said, “The latest developments are of serious concern as it is evident that they are undertaken with the objective of relocating the concerned communities, as well as causing serious distress to the vulnerable residents who are watching what appear to be preparations for the demolition of their community.”

“These pastoral communities are mostly Palestinian refugees – originally displaced from their tribal lands in the Negev. They should not be forced to experience a second displacement against their will,” he added.

The UN and the EU have assisted the West Bank Palestinian and Bedouin communities out of a belief that housing is a basic human right and out of a frustration that the Civil Administrants grants only a few building permits in Area C of the West Bank.

Right-wing Israelis and politicians, however, said they were frustrated by the European reaction and the High Court injection, particularly their lack of empathy for settlers whose homes were demolished as the result of court rulings.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein tweeted: “You celebrate when the High Court of Justice ordered the demolition of a Jewish community in Judea and Samaria but God forbid a Bedouin village is destroyed [the attitude is], ‘God forbid.’ This is hypocrisy.”

The right-wing NGO Regavim charged that European countries had colluded with the Palestinian Authority to take control of the Ma’aleh Adumim area by helping to finance building in Khan Al-Ahmar.

“The Khan Al-Ahmar case has become a litmus test for the State of Israel, which must stand firm against the campaign of pressure and relocate the outpost,” Regavim said.
