The essence of Sufism is actually similar like hipnosis. Dzikir is the way to change wrong belief inside our subconsciousness ( the heart). Instead of getting pride from worldly thing or what people said, the real believer will try to put Quran belief to their heart. Just pick one or two that you like, and keep saying the verse in the heart in daily basis. And then try to be emotionally close to ALLAH each day. It is already a Sufism practice. Simple.

Next step is to make the subconsciousness become conscious, so we can detect our hidden motive and try to fight bad motive..

Thats is Sufism. Nothing wrong in there. It is just a psychological side of Islam.

Quran: Al-Fath: 26

"When those who disbelieved had put into their hearts chauvinism - the chauvinism of the time of ignorance. But Allah sent down His tranquillity upon His Messenger and upon the believers and imposed upon them the word of righteousness, and they were more deserving of it and worthy of it. And ever is Allah , of all things, Knowing."

This is my favorite verse, if I can get pride and worthy feeling from it, it means I am able to penetrate my subconsciousness and not regarded as a hypocrite any more (who just know many verses but not able to feel it). For years I remember it and say it almost in daily basis. ("And to ALLAH belongs..........). This verse make us strong and worthy.

Quran: Al -Munafiqun: verse 8

They say ( munafiqun/ kafir people), "If we return to al-Madinah, the more honored [for power] will surely expel there from the more humble." And to Allah belongs [all] honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know.
