Uttar Pradesh police have sounded an alert in several districts of western parts of the state following communal clashes in Meerut over an alleged attempt of converting a female teacher.

Tension gripped the Kharkhauda area of Meerut district on Sunday evening when an angry mob came out on the road in protest against the alleged conversion attempt. The mob also alleged gangrape of the teacher.

“An alert has been sounded in Meerut and other adjoining districts after the incident. We have deployed additional forces in the Kharkhauda police station area,” director general of police (DFP) AL Banerjee told media here in Lucknow.

Police said that the incident took place inside a madarsa in Sarawa village where the teacher worked. The 20-year-old teacher was reportedly compelled to adopt the religion of a community in a madarsa and then taken to Muzaffarnagar and kept in confinement in a house there for three days. She, however, managed to escape from the clutches of the abductors, reached her home in Kharkhauda and narrated the entire ordeal tale to her family.


“She has also alleged that she was gangraped during the confinement,” police said.

Meanwhile police was quick to lodge a case against the madarsa cleric, village pradhan and two others for allegedly plotting the conversion plan.

“Village pradhan Nawab Khan and cleric Sannaullah have been arrested based on the complaint of the girl. An FIR has been filed against four persons including these two,” police said.

"The gangrape allegation could be ascertained only after medical examination of the girl," police added.

Meerut: Another shameful incident has surfaced in the violence hit Saharanpur region where a girl from Kharaunda was first gang-raped and later on forced to accept Islam as her religion. This incident has evoked another controversy in the communal violence hit Saharanpur. As per reports, the girl who was abducted on July 23 and yesterday, she reached the police station in an unconscious state along with her family where she reported the entire matter to the police and said that she was forced to accept Islam as her religion and was also gang-raped in a Madarsa in Hapud.

In her statement to the police, the girl said that she was kept captive for the past 10 days in a Madarsa. Adding further, she said that although she managed to escape from the place however, there is a Madarsa in Mustafa Colony of Muzzaffarnagar where as many as 40-45 girls have been kept in captivity. For investigation in the matter, the DM in Hapur has given all the information about the matter to the Commissioner in Saharanpur and Meerut.

It was after the victim, recorded her statement, police raided the respective Madarsa which the girl had talked about. During the raid, they found as many as 20 girls missing. As per reports, serious charges have been registered against the Hafiz of the Madarsa along with the village headman and nine others after the higher authorities reached the place of crime.

This incident has aroused all the more tension in the district. Protesting against the shameful act, BJP workers have blocked the Meerut-Hapud road. During the protests, the BJP workers even entered into a fight with the police officials. For his negligence in the matter, SO Dinesh Kumar has also been suspended.

Reports suggest that the victim who was a graduate, used to teach English and Hindi in a Madarsa, however 6 months back, she had stopped teaching.

In his FIR to the police, father of the victim said that on July 23, the girl was abducted by the Hafiz Sannaullaha and the village headman Nawab with the help of his companions. Later on, they took the girl to the Madarsa in Hapud where they gang-raped her and forced her to accept Islam. Also, they assaulted her and warned her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to the police.

In her complaint to the police, the rape victim further added that she was abducted by the village headman Nawab Khan, Hafiz Sannaullah, his wife and daughter Sana alias Nisrat among others. Later on, she was taken to a Madarsa in Hapud on July 31 where she was forced to accept Islam with her name changed to Bushra Jannat and then she was gang-raped. She even said that she was drugged and kept in captivity in a Madarsa in Hapud, Garmukteshwar, Muzzaffarnagar and the Devbandh, however she managed to escape from the place.

Protesting against all what happened with the victim, at around 11 in the night on Sunday, some boys, reached Kharaunda with Batons and Iron rods and then started pelting stones on the doors of some residents and later on they even demolished the houses of many. To stop the destruction in the area, the police officials reached the site along with PAC Jawans, however the boys causing chaos in the area had already fled from the place. As of now, police and PAC have been placed in the area.

It has been reported that strict action will be taken against the accused.
