MEDIA WANTS WAR: CAN WE FIGHT BACK?

Ban GEO for good. Recently they reported something negative about the Stock Market and our Stocks collapsed, this case is pending.

Mujahideen, you have absolutely no knowledge about how stock markets function.

Free flow of information is the lifeline of a stock market.

This is the very reason why investors come to Bombay Stock Exchange and not Shanghai Stock Exchange.

If inverstors overreacted to some news, it shows the immaturity of the investors and market. Definitely not the fault of Geo TV.

Yes your right I really have no knowledge of how the stock market functions. I am a history major not a business major. Just know a little bit.
Now I know enough when a channel reports false news and the stock market falls, th channel should be punished. I mean most places around the world have laws that prohibits the media from reporting on anything which has a negative impact on society. And dont say they dont because this is a hidden law most countries have and the media outlets have agreed to live by this rule.

You know what guys, this is the difference between India and Pakistan.

Pakistani aociety seems incapable of tolerating views contrary to their own.

You guys think GEO news is the problem? Why don't you come to India and hear the cacophony of conflicting voices being aired 24/7?

As for the myth that Indian news channels are always ultra-nationalistic, that's just, as I said, a myth.

Well you are able to say this because you have never heard nes on a Pakistani news channel. In every country the channels try to keep nationalinterests in mind but not in Pakistan.

1. What false news did Geo report?

2. It would help you to read up on media laws in the US and EU, as well as India.

You are ridiculously oversimplifying a very, very complicated issue by saying that "media channels have agreed to live by this rule".

In the US itself, there are hundreds of tv and radio channels that beam coverage totally contradictory to the Bush administration's views. Just because Fox News has agreed to breach the code of ethics doesn't mean that all of American media is collared.

There are certain unwritten rules for every country, sure. However, that has more to do with the attitude of the news people themselves rather than any invisible hand forcing them to shut up.

Maybe your views of what is in national interests and what isn't are just too narrow?

Can you give me one example of a Geo news report that was against the "national interests" of Pakistan?

India has investigative news agencies like Tehelka who take the piss out of the establishment every day.

Don't even compare your tame Geo news to agencies like Tehelka.

1- They report every day the President has written his resignation. They report that the government is about to tax investors which crashes our markets.
2- All these coutries have censorship laws. All these countries have medai outlets will to cooperate with the government. All these countries have media outlets which when threaten will shut up and ignor the issue. You think in these countries the media is free? If you do you are wrong their is no such thing as freedom of the press any where in the world. These things only look good on paper but are never reality.

LOL? That's it? Dude, you have no clue....what goes on on Indian TV.

In India, media intimidation is present, as well as in other countries.

However the agencies that are willing to stick up for their rights always manage to pull through.

Tehelka. com was bombarded by legal cases, threats, administrative hurdles etc. etc. However, they stuck it out and today nobody can touch them.
Tehelka - India's Independent Weekly News Magazine

Indian express has won numerous awards for its truthful reporting and ability to withstand pressure.
Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir India, Srinagar, Kashmiri, Kashmir news

These are living examples of press freedom in India.

In Pakistan, Geo news was ransacked by the army!! Such stuff is unheard of in India. It would have been catastrophic.

^^^^Of courseI dont know what goes on in India and niether do you know what goes on in Pakistan. Everyone thinks their media has complete freedom. And by the way the Army did not ransack Geo's offices. This proves how little you know of Pakistan's internal situation.

EmlPCkmIeg8[/media] - Islamabad Police Attack on GEO TV Office

Ok my bad, it was the police.

In any case, it was the establishment that did it.

Yes, I do happen to know a great deal about what goes on in Pakistan.

Please, name ONE media agency in Pakistan that does the kind of reporting Tehelka and Indian Express do.

^^^^No you still have no idea. You think the establishment did this, you dont even know who the establishment in Pakistan. Do you know who order this attack. Do you know what followed this attack. You haven't th slighest clue of what is happening in Pakistan. And believe me our politics is more open then Indian politics. In Pakistan we knid of know who the players are but in India its much harder to tell. Again I say this because hey let be honest like you have no clue of Pakistani politics I have no clue either.
And as far as the Indian Express and Tehekela are concerned I never heard of them. Never even seen anything by them, so its hard for me to compare anything to anything.

Google them. You won't be disappointed.

For me to google them I would need some prior knowledge about them. Not only that know about the subject or topic they are discussing. All I am concerned is Pakistni politics, I know the background to them, I know the topics and that is all I wish to know. But none the less I will take you up on your offer, I will google them.
