A five senators committee has asked explanation from interior minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao as to how this fast food outlet was allowed to be constructed on a public park. 6000 yards of a park in the prime area was given to the franchise holders at a throw away price. The land is estimated to be 4 to 5 billion dollars while it was given on a 20 years lease for only Rs.317000.

Apart from that it is in violation of Supreme Courts order of construction on public land

Would like to remind dear members that Sherpao had corruption cases pending against him in NAB. But that was only till he joined Musharrafs team

Yes thats what the news report said. And i believe this to be quite true.

A year or so the same area of land in Blue area was sold for a similar amount.

Supreme Courts suo motu action against the illegal food outlet and the ongoing construction work in the park

CDA chairman summoned in case against int’l outlet opening

Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Rana Bhagwandas has ordered the issuance of notices to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman to appear in court on June 1 in a suo motu case regarding the construction of an international fast food chain outlet (McDonald’s) in F-9 Park in Islamabad.

The action was initiated by the acting chief justice on the basis of a press clipping that appeared in a local newspaper on August 28, 2006. The acting CJ has directed the CDA chairman to comment regarding the issue.

Later on, a complaint dated February 14, 2007 was received on the same subject from Sadia Abbasi, a high court advocate. The cases were put together and the matter was fixed in the chamber of Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan. After hearing the parties and going through the CDA chairman’s report, Justice Raza recommended presentation of the case before the court.

The news report and letter had called upon the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the construction of an international fast food chain outlet in F-9 Park in which commercial activities could not be carried out.

The land of the park has been given for the restaurant on the desire of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

This man Shuakat Aziz has go go before he sells out Pakistan. Previously he allowed his friend Arif Habib (wanted by NAB and a known defaulter) to bid for PSM. Not only that Arif Habib was in the committe which prepared the tender for the bidding of PSM.

But when CJ of Pakistan stayed the privatization and brought forth the true intention of the government behind its privatization, the PM and his team prepared a fake reference and CJ ended up becoming non functional

70 years is a big lease. How low is the amount they are charging btw?

Which is nothing at all. This is a bribe, a favour that has no precedent. But most of all it is on a public park which is a violation of CDA rules.

Anyone who lives in isloo knows how strict CDA is in implementing its laws.

I don't see the Presidential level corruption here... The CDA chairman has been driven to court...

Of course it won't resolve till the prosecution lawyers get off the streets and goto the courts.

Involved or not but he will be blamed for every wrong or good Shaukat Aziz or his cabinet or their government has done.

I feel PM and interior minister are to be blamed for this.

Apart from this outlet in F-9 there is another one in Jinnah Park rawalpindi quite near to GHQ. Both these places come under interior ministry and with aftab sherpao in power anything is possible.

I am not a great fan of Fast/Junk food either and giving prime land to a fast food resturant is defintely undesirable. However let us not get carried away in our condemnation. I saw in one post that it is 6,000 sq yards and the estimated the value as 4 to 5 billion dollars !!!.

Let us convert it in Rupes. $ 4- billion is equal to PK Rs 240 -billion ( at Rs 60/dollar). This is 240 arab rupees or equal to Pakistan's total defence budget. This translates into Rs 40-million or 4-crore per sq yard!!. Good God this is more expensive than London Mayfair, supposedly the most expensive land in the world. A most recent sale was 50-million pounds for a 1/3 Acre buliding apartment block.1/3 acre ( 1600 Sq yards) comes to PK Rs 38 lacs per square yard to gether with the building containing 20 apartments.

In other words Islamabad land is 10 times more expensive than Mayfair in London.

I dont mean to denigrate or insult any one, but my request is that even if the land is worth on 2 - arab rupees it is a very bad decision. There is no need to go overboard to try to prove your point.
