I don't understand why Greece and Turkey cannot achieve peace? Both countries are NATO members and both countries have a lot to gain through peace. Greece has been through hell with it's economy in tatters. To make matters worse, it's European partners (Germany, France, Belgium and Netherlands) have exploited Greece's economic collapse. Is this what the "Union" is all about for Europe? Greece instead should work with Turkey and achieve peace. Better relations between the two countries would give both countries tremendous economic advantage.

Both Turkey and Greece can work together, once they have a peace agreement, both countries should work to extricate themselves out of the IMF/WB "Debt Death Trap." Work together, create debt-free robust economies that are independent of Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Britain and America. The latter countries have connivingly profited from Greek-Turkic rivalry. While both Greece and Turkey have suffered economically and with war dangling above their heads like swords.

Look at how france is milking this situation. After french spat with Turkish Navy in the Southern Mediterranean, near Libya. It is the french exploiting Greece-Turkey rivalry. Greek aren't stupid like indians, neither are Turks as gullible as indians. Both countries can stamp out Western hegemony, by coming to agreements of peace with mutually assured.

It is a religious conflict. Ethnically the Greeks/Turks are pretty much the same. For most of history they have been under the rule of the same people ie Byzantines. The turkish migration has had more affect on turkeys language than ethnicity. The main conflict is religious and political.

The greeks were ruled by the turkish ottomans for hundreds of years. The turks were the first to take Constantinople. This is something the greek brain can never forget. Very similar to how Mulsims ruled India for thousands of years the greeks are very similar to indians as they can never forget who their real fathers were.

They both have a jurisdiction dispute around Aegean Islands. Pretty simple to see the proximity of those islands.

Ethnically Greeks Turks are very different. And for most history few Turks had been under Byzantine rule. The Turkish migration brought the Seljuks to Anatolia where they started conquering lands from the Byzantine Empire,the Armenians,the Arabs and later the Ottoman Turks became the dominant Turkish "tribe" let's say.

The turks were the first to take Constantinople.
