every minority community in India, whether its sikhs, jains, buddhists, christians, parsis etc seem to do better than hindus economically on a per capita basis. Its just the muslims that are lagging behind a lot. I wonder if they need to introspect than always crying discrimination. just my $0.02
Because they don't work for it. I know this Telugu friend of mine from Andhra who told me the mentality of Hyderabadi muslims until very recently. While many of them do work, they are typically brought up with the 'nawab or Nizam' style of thinking. Hyderabad as a separate kingdom had the whole EU style welfare mindset where the local muslims were very lazy and inactive.
This pervades even now and that is what causes them to not work. While initially this was to encourage assimilation, even BR Ambedkar wanted to scrap off reservations in Indian work culture. But thanks to VP Singh, it returned as a bane for Indian society.
I don't blame muslims. But they simply have the wrong inspiration till now.
While Parsis are inspired by the likes of JRD Tata, Muslims look towards 'government hand'.
While Sikhs continue to prosper as a northern business community, Muslims think that they are being left behind.
While Jews are known as one of the most vociferous businessmen around the world, Muslims feel that they need support.
While we in the east and northeast look to our rich texts to work hard from times immemorial, they feel that someone should keep bringing them forward.
They as a society have only begun to realize the pinch of not developing scientifically now when they see all are going forward. While the more open minded muslims like the shias, ismailis, sufis, bohris etc are business minded and work towards it, sunni majority sadly wants to wait for concessions from the state.
It is time they look at APJ Abdul Kalam for inspiration rather than quota.
That is the true identity of a great Indian.
