Massive Earthquake in Manipur, India

Felt a massive earthquake at about 4.30 AM Indian Standard Time.

Was woken up rudely by the quake. No apparent damage to my home or nearby structure's at Silchar.

Apparently epicentre is in Manipur, India. Strength 6.8. May go up.

Update:

Earthquake epicentre near Imphal, capital of Manipur. Intensity 6.7 on the Richter scale.

M6.7 - 29km W of Imphal, India

Local radio (All India Radio) reports at 7.40 AM

Massive damage in Manipur particularly in Imphal. 1 dead & 8 injured. Internet and electricity still not restored.

Part of bank of Kushiyara river (near Karimganj town of India) bordering Bangladesh has collapsed on the Bangladesh side.

Extensive damage in Lumding, Assam. Many buildings moderately damaged in Guwahati including Guwahati Medical College.

NDTV reporting massive damage in Bangladesh. Can BD posters confirm?

P.S. : Very strong quake. I was literally thrown off my bed here at Silchar. (approx 180 kms from epicentre). Luckily, not much damage here.

This is from a research paper which pops out first on relevant google search. I aint a geologist but can surely deduce that the combination of NS and EW fault lines can potentially produce some devastating quakes in future.

Quakes, low to medium intensity, continuously happen in this region. One can almost get used to it. This one, though, was moderately big. A big one was predicted to occur for some time now. This was a big one but not THE big one everyone feared might happen.

Hopefully, we will not get to see the big one, as it were.

Family says they had never felt this long tremors for last 50 years or so.. its been almost 2 minutes continuous shaking feeling in Assam.
fortunately, i dont live there (professional compulsion) but whole fam does.. No damage so far but most ppl are shaken up by the duration of the tremors

Surveying houses in and around to see damages if any by community people

some pics have emerged for damage. Spicenter around Imphal.. Manipur will see some heavy damage surely..

Can the mods please clear this thread of undesirable elements who are prone to mock and troll an event as serious and tragic as a natural disaster.

I was literally thrown of my bed. I have felt many quakes before but this was the strongest.

Prayers for Manipur. Imphal valley will be hard hit.
