Believe me, just a couple of days ago was in a bar with a friend. The bartender saw the friend's baseball cap with a glock gun image on it and both these started talking about the various guns they have--multiple--and then the friend turned to me and asked: How are you going to defend your self with just your .22 rifle? I said that is for only killing snakes. Anyway, they both gently continued to make fun of my 'self defense' provisions.

Definitely, something is rotten in America!

RIP to the victims, a nearby local engaged the shooter apparently as he was leaving the church. This country really needs to address mental health issues. He was discharged from the Air Force, who knows for what. His thoughts probably went downhill from there. Really anyone who is struggling temporarily with mental health should do themselves a favor and avoid acquiring any weapons as their moods fluctuate drastically and with a weapon available these people can end up killing others or killing themselves. Depression can be difficult to deal with, you can go through a low and think everything is doomed/going wrong in your life. Then several hours later you go back to a normal mood and start relaxing and being happy again. This cycle repeats itself throughout one person's life.

And of course with weapons available, that person might go through a difficult depressive phase lasting hours, days, or even a week or more. And at this point make decision to murder others or commit suicide. It's sad and mental illness is spreading and there should be no shame in opening up to others and getting help. Unfortunately it's still considered somewhat taboo and some people don't seek help.

Of course I could be wrong and this guy acted out of some rage or fantasy. Nevertheless the overall issue needs to be addressed. I'd also like to mention that lone wolf muslim radicals are likely dealing with these issues too but instead of getting help or understanding something is wrong, they escape the harsh reality and channel their emotions into what they perceive as jihad, and make themselves feel better that way. Both types of shooters/killers usually end up killing themselves and have fixation on suicide.
