Dhaka, Mar 31 (bdnews24.com) -– Bangladesh should not collect fees for providing transit or transshipment facility to India, says prime minister's economic advisor Mashiur Rahman.

"Had our country been an uncivilised one or our leaders been illiterate then we could have asked for the fees, but that's not the case," he told reporters after a dialogue on Thursday.

On several occasions in the past, both the finance minister and foreign minister had said that India should pay fees for availing of transshipment facility.


"It's a non-starter if we think that by giving transit facility, Bangladesh is actually providing subsidy to Indian export," he added.

its pure trade and business and BD needs revenue whereas India with double digit growth can afford to pay transit fee then why your govt is selling interests of common Bangladeshis

No you haven't given us a land transit corridor for Indian goods to Afghanistan.

Plus Bangladeshis are not asking for this....they seem to pretty content even if we give them a small percentage of the money we save, even if we do not provide them free land based transit corridor for Nepal and Bhutan(very naive in my opinion..but what can you if somebody lacks business sense).
