MarkhorOS - indigenous operating system built by pakistanis

If you are doing just for the sake of patriotism without a business case, please do not do it. First make mind for the commercials and target market, what advantages will your OS provide over existing ones besides a "made in Pakistan" tag, and most importantly how will you generate a profit out of it.

money cannot buy you the pride you get from your achievement.

Pakistan also needs an alternative to facebook. Modeling an app based on some of the chinese super apps; with their all round functions, should be a game changer for any one that be successful with it. Something like Russia’s VK. Started out with a few languages and now has 200 million users and many many languages.

Own OS is a major step towards securing from backdoor hacking from International companies

Commercial products like Microsoft, and firewalls have special undisclosed abilities to allow people to get thru networks

Majority of Russian Software is solid because it is written in Russian language and with 100% Russian programming content, that is why S300 is S300

Facebook
Microsoft
Google
Twitter
Amazon

Are pretty much working closely behind the scene with CIA
Another reason why you see the insistence of asking people to use "Facebook or Gmail" to log into applications by global consumer

Volunteers needed for an OS built by pakistanis from groundup. This will be a huge project involving 100s of software engineers from pakistan. Please join the facebook page facebook.com/markhor

More details will be posted on the facebook page.
In shaa Allah, you guys will be successful..

Linux is the future of mankind and it's totally out there in the open for anyone to see and inspect for any malicious code. Great engineers and programmers have spent some of their best quality time to contribute to it out of love and passion for it.

The rate of change and innovation in Linux is so fast that no other software project in human history or in the future can match it. If it's just a learning excercise in operating system theory then working on own OS is fine, otherwise I would vote in favor of embracing the most well developed OS in the world i.e Linux.

It would be better to spend time studying it's source code and learn from it, share patches to make it bug free and all.

Its my own idea , I don't want funding but one thing I can tell you, I just want to have an alternative that is free of western shackles

Fantastic mate. I hope you are successful ! How long do you expect this will take to complete?

We want to build it from the ground up so no we do not want to use linux open source code. At the moment we are looking at like minded people who have relevant experience in C language so that we can build a basic kernel please share our facebook page @markhosOS with anyone who you think could be interested.

Hi, some years ago I had written a basic OS that involved learning x86 assembly and using C. It was I believe the first rudimentary OS in India.

I was quite inspired by the QNX Neutrino OS which is micro-kernel based and I believe the best OS presently. It uses message-passing as the main method of I/O between processes.

It is nice that you want to build the OS from ground-up. It actually doesn't take 100's of people, even dozens to write an OS. Once you decide the architecture, you the designers / writers will just need a PC each, some method of maintaining the code, a compiler / assembler suite and an emulator for the initial days until you are able to load the OS directly from say an USB drive.

For my project I had used the BCC compiler ( Bruce Evan's C Compiler ), the Bochs PC emulator and a Linux machine to run those on.

I think you should make your OS an open source one.

Good luck.

Best of luck guys. Must keep this mind that you are doing it for Pakistan. It will be a step towards Indegnization.

We have a Clash of Civilizations and everything we make at home is crucially important!

Writing one's own OS is simpler and faster than learning another OS's internals.
Well if we want a feature set comparable to dos, then writing ones own OS could be feasible technically. If we want it to properly support modern x86 machines, a hobby OS won't be of any use in that case. It would at best only be a learning exercise.

I am not at all talking about a hobby OS.

For my own OS I got into financial partnership with another person to commercially develop my basic OS into a full-fledged one. It is another matter that we closed down the company within a year for another reason.

By the way, the older Minix micro-kernel OS was meant to be a learning OS and it was I think a full-fledged OS.

I just checked. Minix is still around. Version 3.
