MarkhorOS - indigenous operating system built by pakistanis

Its my own idea , I don't want funding but one thing I can tell you, I just want to have an alternative that is free of western shackles
I wrote.an os in Univ. But oflcurse it was fairly basic.
Happy to help you In Whatever way.
Do.you want GitHub private repo ? I think I have

If you are doing just for the sake of patriotism without a business case, please do not do it. First make mind for the commercials and target market, what advantages will your OS provide over existing ones besides a "made in Pakistan" tag, and most importantly how will you generate a profit out of it.
Yes also a good idea to get funding if you can. But there needs to be some dedicated for marketing etc

I am not at all talking about a hobby OS.

For my own OS I got into financial partnership with another person to commercially develop my basic OS into a full-fledged one. It is another matter that we closed down the company within a year for another reason.

By the way, the older Minix micro-kernel OS was meant to be a learning OS and it was I think a full-fledged OS.

I just checked. Minix is still around. Version 3.
I have a lot of respect for Minix and it's author. If the OS being referred in this thread is a minimalist, specialized one, then writing from scratch is fine, a general purpose one is an altogether different thing.

There's a reason Russia and China are basing their official/ national OSes on Linux.

There is no comparison to what Linux can do.

QNX Neutrino 6 is a general-purpose OS with hard-real-time capability. It exists despite the popularity of Linux. Even nuclear reactors use QNX for control. Please read this and this article.

Though I know that SpaceX uses Linux for its space-craft on-board control software.

I believe that @Baz and his forthcoming team should build from ground-up taking QNX as the inspiration, rather than just create yet another distribution of Linux.

There's a reason Russia and China are basing their official/ national OSes on Linux.

There is no comparison to what Linux can do.

The reason, I believe, is the underlying processor architecture. The Russian organization, MCST, produces processors that use SPARC as the ISA. Chinese processors are also American, ISA-wise. Therefore, Linux on these ISAs will already be available.

How about interoperability with existing apps ? If not , how are you going to port existing apps ? An OS needs compatible apps so that users can utilize the OS.

Volunteers needed for an OS built by pakistanis from groundup. This will be a huge project involving 100s of software engineers from pakistan. Please join the facebook page facebook.com/markhor

More details will be posted on the facebook page.

What do you seek to achieve with it? What difference will it bring to the table?

An ambitious idea well worth pursuing. Makes a lot of sense.

we need a lot of discussion on it if its to make a reality.
1 - purpose (at themoment its one only -- to break away)
2 - vision
3 - use of it

all this will set the direction and energy of the team as well

i dont know why its on facebook really.. u want your OS and putting things on facebook which is used by govts

Can they not secure some funding from the government? Or probably it is too hard for this western controlled government to do anything against the interest of they masters.

If you take this project to Secretary for science and technology prolly some arts graduate he might take this os for osd, officer on special duty, rejected!

Such is the level of disconnect between the guvt and professionals and then people wonder why our nerds go overseas

I was thinking the same... If i cannot browse most of the websites on its web browser... Why would I install it? Word processing, excel sheets, graphics suits , games, enterprise applications etc... Nobody is going to port their softwares for this OS just because a few million people in Pakistan use it.

Ever wonder why none of the other countries bothered to create their own OS? Consider the Huawei test case where HarmonyOS is quite possibly ready, it is the lack of support network that Google and Apple have raised over the many years.....similar to Microsoft (or even Linux) in this case. Without the whole support eco system, the effort is useless.

windows source code is very difficult to access, mostly those working in microsoft have access to it and it includes around 24 terabytes of data to build windows operating system.reverse engineering existing operating system is necessary for developing own successful operating system which is very difficult job.First you successfully reverse engineer existing os in market by getting access to its source code then you will get good knowledge and training for developing own better operating system
