Manmohan's childhood friend dies in Pakistan
Amritsar: Raja Mohammed Ali, a childhood friend of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, died after he suffered a massive heart attack in Pakistan, family sources said on Friday.
Ali was 78.
Both had studied together till class 4th in Gah village of Chakwal district in Pakistan's Punjab province.
Ali suffered a massive heart attack last night which took his life, they said.
His grand daughter Asifa Azkar and grandson Raja Asad Ali informed about his death to Amritsar-based Rashmi Talwar, a writer, over phone from Pakistan.
The Prime Minister's Office has been informed about the demise of PM's friend.
Ali had come to India via Wagah border in 2008. He later met the PM in Delhi, and the world media had described it as one of those unforgettable moments in history when the Indian PM met his Pakistani classmate.
Ali had brought the soil and water of the PM's house and of their school for the PM. He had also presented the PM with their village chakwali Jutti (footwear).
