Manmohan and Nawaz all set to meet on the sidelines of UN General Assembly

Despite the efforts of the hawkish elements in their respective countries, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is all set to meet his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. This was confirmed by Singh himself before leaving for New York on Wednesday. The long-awaited meeting hit snags last month when relations between both the countries hit rock-bottom after tension on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir area. Indian PM was under pressure from powerful political and military elements of his country to call off the meeting to demonstrate displeasure to Pakistan.
In August this year, five Indian troops were reported killed on LOC while on patrol duty. The initial accounts of the incident were confusing and self-contradictory. However, the hawkish elements in Indian polity and establishment pressured the government to point finger towards Pakistan’s elite troops, Special Services Groups (SSG). Subsequent developments suggested that the story made up by Indians was lacking in substance. The matter was laid to rest.
During the meeting, both the premiers are expected to find ways to improve bilateral relations.

Pakistani PM should just wait until elections are over in India to meet the Indian PM. Whatever informal agreements they may reach could just be placed in the waste paper basket after the Indian elections
