People’s Liberation Army of Manipur, the oldest and one of the most powerful rebel outfits of India, in its 34th anniversary last month has called for a united fight by all the insurgent groups for a sovereign Northeast. Photographs of the meeting of smartly turned out rebels held in an undisclosed forest of Manipur showed that the government has no writ in some parts of the state.
PLA, the armed wing of the Revolutionary Peoples’ Front (RPF), which has been waging a bloody war against India, has again rejected the government offer for negotiated settlement under the framework of the Indian Constitution. PLA chief Irengbam Chaoren made a passionate call upon some 33 groups of insurgents including ULFA. The call reflected the suggestion of its mentor in Beijing who viewed they could achieve independence fighting separately.
Thousands of Army and paramilitary forces were deployed in seven northeast states of India to suppress insurgency. Knowing that the major insurgents groups have bases along the Myanmar border the Indian government was trying in vain to put up joint efforts with Myanmar to flush out the insurgents from the safe sanctuaries. Manmohan Singh visited Myanmar last year with offers of lucrative financial assistance. He got the verbal assurance but nothing has been done so far.

Myanmar has its own problem with the Nagas on both sides of the border and ethnic groups and is unwilling to take any strong action lest the situation flares up and creates new difficulties.
Assam intelligences officials are learnt to have informed Delhi that the insurgents groups were gaining strength and spread their activities to Arunachal Pradesh bordering China. They were getting arms supplies from across the border.
Reports say Manipur PLA has initiated a major offensive against a team of Manipur police commandos on the outskirts of Imphal. The attack was significant considering the fact that the outfit had earlier declared that it will not attack personnel of the state security the state police.
PLA has accused the Assam Rifles for lining up a fake surrender ceremony. Some 50 innocent villagers arrested were paraded in the surrender ceremony.
The PLA was raised in 1978 on 25 September by N Bisheshwar Singh. It was the first organisation from Manipur to have been trained by the China’s People Liberation Army at Lhasa in the ’80s. Since its founding, it has been waging guerrilla-based warfare against the Indian Armed Forces and has targeted the Indian Army, Central Paramilitary Forces and the State Police Force. However, during the late ’90s, it declared a unilateral decision not to target the Manipur Police.

MY point of these thread is not bashing India but the fact that GOI suppress news regarding how volatile NE is and the possible human rights violation taking place there by the security forces. The Indian media even though free plays an active part in keeping it low profile like this news here, I didn't find any Indian news paper or for that matter any intl. news outlets reporting it.

The violence in the North East is the handiwork of extremists in Bangladesh - they do demographic terrorism, there is too much support via arms and training camps in Bangladesh for these terrorists who are btw illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

It has been toned down, That is true, Regarding any actorities committed in North east India, It must be condemned and it will be condemned, India's Policy makers completely ignored North East India, India must allocate additional funds, for the development of infrastructure, Education in North east sector. Bangaldesh must also co-operate with India in these type of Initiiatives and It will be good for both the countries. Regarding Kashmir I dont regret use of force in kashmir sector.

Analysing the States’ performance in the Service Sector the Economic Survey 2011-
12 notes that the highest growth rates of the Services Sector are in the north-eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh (34.9 per cent) and Sikkim (30.1 per cent). Among the other States, Goa with 20.1 per cent and Bihar with 16.6 per cent growth top the list. This is over and above their very high growth rates in 2008-09. Other States with higher than national average growth in the sector are Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Mizoram.

Bangladeshis Worries Mizoram CM

Mizoram chief minister Lalthanhawla yesterday expressed concern on the unabated infiltration of Bangladeshi nationalsacross both the state boundaries in Mizoram and Cachar district in Assam. Talking to a delegation from the adjoining Cachar district in his official residence in Aizawl, Lalthanhawla said at present, the Bangladeshi infiltrators were allegedly involved in at least 25 per cent of the crimes, including murders. Sharifuzamman Laskar, secretary of Congress¡¯s Northeast coordination committee, led the delegation.
The delegation drew the attention of Lalthanhawla to the recent incidents in the state, including the violence on non-Mizos who travel to Mizoram seeking temporary jobs in construction sites here. Laskar also pointed out the difficulties and inconveniences faced by non-Mizo businessmen while renewing their trade licences in Mizoram under the provisions of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations Act, 1873, without which these people are threatened with expulsion from the neighbouring state. Lalthanhawla, on the other hand, made it clear that the inner line permit for non-Mizos in Mizoram is essential, as otherwise, the minuscule Christian Mizo community of over 10 lakh would be outnumbered by outsiders.
The chief minister said he would not encourage the acts of the alleged harassmentof the genuine non-Mizos from the state whoregularly visit Mizoram either as tourists or onspecific purposes. When confronted with the accusations that the activists of Young Mizo Association, the biggest NGO in Mizoram, are engaged in checking the inner line permits ofthe non-Mizos, Lalthanhawla said there is nothing wrong with it. He said the police at times engaged the NGO in checking such documents for their convenience.
In a bid to step up the inter-state travel of thetraders from Mizoram into Cachar district andvice versa, the chief minister said his government was keen to make the Bhagabazar township in Cachar and its adjoining Vairengte block area in Mizoram a free zone. This in turn could become a valid enclave for the free movement of the traders of both the adjacent states with their wares. Lalthanhawla also promised that the boundary demarcations of Assam and Mizoram along the 70km stretch of border of the Barak valley districts would soon be completed, in coordination with the higher authorities of the two states, without any acrimony or bitterness.

More than 110 rebels surrenders

More than 110 rebels surrenders belonging to various outlawed outfits surrendered their arms to Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh in aceremony here Wednesday, an official said.¡±As many as 114 rebels belonging to different banned factions in Manipur have laid down arms unconditionally,¡± Assam Riflesspokesperson Amit Chettry said. In Manipur, there are more than 20 rebel outfits with demands ranging from secession to greater autonomy.
The rebels also surrendered a huge cache of weapons which included AK-47 rifles, carbines and pistols, the spokesperson said. The chief minister lauded the bold step taken by the rebels and said that peace and crime-free atmosphere would catalyse growth and development in Manipur. He also applauded the important role played by Assam Rifles in encouraging ¡°misguided¡± youth to join the mainstream. The Assam Rifles spokesperson said the families of the surrendered rebels appreciated the role played by the paramilitary force in facilitating the surrender. ¡±They (families) hope that the rehabilitation of these surrendered rebels willbe done by the administration in a time-bound manner,¡± Chettry said.

Better say instability in North-East gives pleasure to many Bangladeshis. But this was a stray bomb attacks without any casualties which further shows militants in Manipur has become very weak.
