Mangalore college bans burqa in class

This has a lot to do with basic common sense.

How many of you spouting gibberish here about religious freedom have actually taught in your lives ?

I have. Albeit as a stop gap for a year while studying for my PG entrances.

I taught Physiology to first MBBS students. In a all-girl's medical college :) (lol fond memories)

It is near impossible to teach someone face to face if her (or his) face is covered.

Not to mention damn unnerving.

I can appreciate your experience, but it is not our decision to dictate how one should dress.

It is not what is the need of veil in class it is what ALLAH has ordered them to do they are doing what ALLAH has told them to do if they are stopped they are not stopped Islam is tried to be stopped

With no disrespect meant to Allah or any other religion..

We selectively involve god in our personal lives and actions. We are also told / expected by God to do good, be good, not tell a lie, help the needy, not be corrupt in our thoughts & actions etc etc.

Wonder why we do not follow ' instructions' which do not suit us for the moment ?

Many teaching institutions, clubs, offices, and work places have a dress code.

You abide by that dress code or you do not enter.

You have the freedom to practice your religion.

But not when and if it interferes with others.

There is no place for a burkha or a veil in a classroom. Or an office.

We follow every command and Veil for women is also command of ALLAH

We have had any number of discussions on the Burka here on this forum with regard to the laws made in Europe.

What I recall is that wearing a veil is desirable not mandatory. It must be a personal decision that why one sees the FM of Pak without one.

Looks like our western neighbors have a serious reading comprehension problem. Little do they know that this is a privately run school, therefore the government cannot do anything about the rules and regulations.

Absolutely.

A simple head scarf draped over the bossom more than suffices for those who want to adhere to the written word.

Everything else came not from the book but from mortal men, however learned or revered they might have been.

If the girls want to stay they will have to accommodate, otherwise I'm sure they will just have to change schools.

However it seems like a pathetic action on the part of the college.

. . .
This will lead to communal tensions later or sooner

U mean between Christians and Muslims???????????

As it was a christian school that have banned the burqa in its premiss.

Nothing will happen as Christian schools don't allow Hindu religious symbols and the religious things Hindu wears.

They banned Hindu things too.

The media is confusing the situation.

The "ban" is only on wearing the Niqab or face covering. The college has a uniform and all students wear the uniform. HOwever, Muslim girls can and do still wear the hijab or the headscarf as provided by the college regulations. This is what is followed in most colleges and schools including this particular Mangalore college.
Wearing Niqab is not cumpolsory or mandated in Islam. So if you want to wera Niqab, you can do it outside class. Only covering the hair is required.

There were a few colleges were this problem happened last year. However later the issue was resolved when the Shawl or dupatta that was provided as part of school uniform was accepted to be used as a head scarf.

And wearing a head scarf should not be a problem. It can be from a colour as part of the uniform. We have sikh students who wear a turban or a head covering so anyone opposing a head scarf for Muslim girls would be being a hypocrite if he doesn't oppose sikh students removing their head covering as well.

.
Why?

I hope an Indian Muslim starts opening up colleges for Muslim females, that can wear burkha if they choose to.

There already are many colleges opened by Muslims for Muslims in India.

As for Burkha, I really doubt if it is compulsory. I have many muslim female friends who do not wear a burkha or even cover their head. They are very modern in their dress as in their attitude.
