Kolkata, Jan 14: IT giant Infosys is considering of surrendering the land in Bengal, thanks to the state chief minister's rigid stance of not granting them the special economic zone (SEZ), a report published in Anandabazaar Patrika said on Wednesday. According to the report, Infosys's Senior Vice-president Ramadas Kamath met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on January 5, three days ahead of Biswa Banga Sammelan, the global business summit held in the state, and expressed their interest in going ahead with their project in the state but sought the SEZ for that. The chief minister stopped the meeting then and there and asked Kamath there will be no further talks on the matter, the ABP report said. The disappointed authorities of Infosys are even thinking of officially scrapping their project in Kolkata. Sources in Infosys said Kamath went to see the land for the project in Rajarhat area of Kolkata on January 4 and even expressed content with it. He reportedly said that world could be started in the area as soon as the SEZ status is granted. He met state officials the next day but it all finally went down to Banerjee who shattered all hopes for the IT giant. The only IT firm that was mentioned during the Bengal global summit was Tata Consultancy Services which got permission during the previous Left Front government. Even the claim made by Banerjee's government that investment worth over Rs 2,40,000 crore materialised during the recent summit was seen with suspicion. Infosys's story has not been a smooth one. The firm's co-founder, Narayana Murthy first expressed interest to invest in Bengal in 2005 and in 2006, his firm also sought 100 acres from the then government. The project faced problems in pricing but it was in 2010 that the firm got 50 acres land for 75 crore rupees. The situation turned worse after Mamata Banerjee took over as the chief minister as her government refused to grant the much sought SEZ status to the firm. The firm went completely silent on the matter even after the then Bengal industries ministers Partha Chatterjee went to Bengaluru to meet officials of Infosys.

Bengal needs a regime change ASAP

Well.. Sucks to have a stupid CM who is equally arrogant. This was inevitable. If she gets one more term, New-Town development plans will be gone.

Yesterday I went to see an apartment near Axis Mall and the guy told me : " Dada, BJP ko aane dijiye, iska 60 lakh ka 1 crore ho jayega"... Even Local Businessmen are getting desperate.

HAHAHA, There is new will in Bengal ad, infact there is no will in Bengal.it will remain the same as it is for future years, unless mamata and left are kicked out and Bjp is elected.Wake up Bengalis, your future is being destroyed by these jokers who wants to destroy any industry nor will let anyone invest in West Bengal.

Everything said in this West Bengal global summit ad is a lie. There is no power, no skill,no policies, no new jobs created,

"Don't come to Bengal, there is no growth" That is what Mamata didi is, sending the message to investors.
what a joke.:pop::suicide:

This Infosys SEZ would have brought thousands of Jobs and in turn would have given boost to Residential Projects. Taxing those would have easily compensated for the SEZ. I cant believe how stupid can she get.

She shoos Infy away days after the Business Summit and she expects investors to trust her. I have heard she is planning to lease out the land to encroaches for 100 years and in turn stunt any development plan. Even East-West Metro is not progressing.

Everything is a lie, she is jittery after modis LS2014 VICTORY and the steady encroachment of her bastion by BJP.So she pulled up this West bengal business summit card like, Vibrant Gujarat summit to fool the people she is doing the best she can to attract investments.Infact, this incident should scare away any investors who dared to invest. All that 2.4 lakh crore investment is hot gas now.Chandra Babu Naidu gave SEZ's like crazy for many companies and that is the reason AP was investment hub until Gujarat overtook it.

It's funny now every state which has non-bjp party ruling is going for such business summits like gujarat, i guess Modi knocked some sense into them, that people want development and jobs.Expect our Kachra CM KCR to come up with similar Telangana Business summit which will be chaired by him and Razakar Owaisi brothers. :D

Bengal used to be the leading state of India.
It had highest literacy rate, think of Tagore, Bose, et al
Kolkata used to be the most developed city in India, now there are calls for it to drop out of tier 1 list as B'lore, Hyderabad have caught up to it.

Bengal is going BIMARU way because bongs like to elect retards as their leaders.
In 30 years people will think of Bengal as they think of Bihar now.As an undeveloped shithole!

Buddy we already caught upto Kolkata way back in 2008 etc. Bengaluru and Hyderabad are better than kolkata now in terms of living conditions and opportunities etc.
Thanks to left parties and TMC,we got those investors lining up to invest in both AP and Karnataka.

This lady ( & party) appears to have only reverse gears in their minds.

No forward gears at all.

She is hoping to gain support from the masses little realizing that job & revenue creation is vital for them.

I don't understand one thing - she just did a Bengal Summit right? Where does she want to establish industries in Bengal? In Bangladesh?
