Mamata Banarjee, who was recently sworn in as the chief minister of India’s state of West Bengal for the third time, has hoped that the ties between her state and Bangladesh will become stronger in the coming days.

She said this in a letter written to the foreign minister of Bangladesh while thanking him for congratulating her on her landslide victory, a spokesperson said on Friday.

Mamata, who heads Trinamool Congress (TMC), steered her party to a spectacular win in the state assembly election by defeating BJP led by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Historically and geographically people of Bangladesh and West Bengal possess common history, culture and heritage, the TMC chief said in the letter.

The ties that bind Bangladesh and West Bengal together also emotionally, will grow stronger in the days to come, she hoped.

“In this election of [West Bengal] people gave verdict for peace, development, unity and solidarity,” Ms Banarjee said.

And the good wishes from Bangladesh would help her to guide West Bengal to a new height in these aspects, the West Bengal chief minister noted in the letter.

Who gives a shite...

Who gives a shite...

WB with Mamata is a great buffer state for Bangladesh, as long as they are at loggerheads with the center.

Keeping Didi happy will pay dividends, send her more Hilsa fish and Jamdani Sarees and medical tourists. Maybe also get some Bengali IT Dadas to teach our kids programming skills in our IT parks.

I am hearing that Mamata will run for Indian PM next time around. :-)

She won't make any worse a PM than the current one. 8-)

This may probably the last term by a regional party in Bengal....the post-poll violence carried out by tmc has shaken the national consciousness...

Modi and his cohorts are finished in WB. No matter the goading by people like Kangna, there will be no "Bhirat Roop" shown by Modi or RSS in WB.

Too bad, so sad.

Play it again Sam.

I did not know if what that guy Mandal said was accurate, but BJP was going to random houses in WB donating money (around Rs. 10,000 per household) to sway votes.

A fat lot of good that did - waste of good Baniya and H1B money. You can't buy TMC traitors like Shuvendu and win elections. People have eyes and ears. WB is not a Hindutva goonda uneducated cow-belt state like Bihar. Not so easy to turn into a Saffron Hindutva stronghold when people have an education.

Well, I don't think it will be easy for BJP. TMC actually increased their vote share, even though BJP increased much more. However one needs to look at INC/CPM vote share as well. Mostly CPM votes converted to BJP and currently there is not much left for left (!) within WB. BJP has to get votes from TMC to defeat mamata, which would be very tough. They poached lot of leaders from TMC, but unlike other states the voters didn't swing to BJP along with the turncoats. WB being an extremely politically involved population will be hard to swing, if they don't have a competing local leader like Mamata.

without a big national level Bengali leader within BJP controlling one of the top 4 ministries (PM,Home,Finance,Defence) there is not a good chance of BJP or any national party coming to rule in Bengal

that said not every supporter within TMC would enjoy the largesse afforded by being in government....this is exactly how TMC defeated the Left....the Left workers who were not seeing any gains joined TMC......so BJP needs to follow the same playbook....and BJP needs to polarize on religious angle...90%+ of 30% Muslims have voted for TMC....on top of that Muslim voting percentage is much much higher.......BJP needs more Hindu voter involvement and completely control the 70% Hindu vote...the 28% Muslim vote..they should forget about it

And given the political violence in Bengal is getting national play...this is the right time for BJP to polarize the state

Few things BJP needs to avoid

1) Stop demanding vegetarianism from Bengali Hindus

2) Stop demanding more religiosity from Bengali Hindus

3) Stop trying to curb the freer gender relations in Bengal...BF-GF relationships and even live-in relationships are not shocking there

4) Stop playing up their association with cow urine

5) Stop giving so much reverence to North Indian religious Hindu figures...when the most prominent Hindu leaders during the time of British Raj AND SPEAKING against the British Raj were Bengalis (Vivekananda,Aurobindo)....While people like Sri Swaminarayan did very little

6) Give importance to Bengali women leaders------->this is something they have done right this time

Though I am not pro-BJP this is a little playbook for them to defeat TMC

Agreed. Why wait 5 years ? Do it now !

Its time for to BJP dissolve the Momotaz Begum government and send her back to Bangladesh. Impose presidents rule in Indian bengal . BJP has the wind blowing in their direction , from 3 seats to 80. Wind is in the favour of BJP.

Similar to what Modi G did in Kashmir .

Modi and his cohorts are finished in WB.

Didi should be thanking us instead afterall , DGFI managed to send 500000000000000000 trillion illegal Bangladeshi citizens to vote in WB elections, Swinging the election in her favour. (/s )
DGFI agent no. 69420 has been compromised

You are assuming TMC will be sitting around sucking thumbs? They will have other strategies.

The 86 seats were gotten with extreme unprecedented difficulty and huge expenditures from BJP, wasn't a cakewalk. This is the best they can do...

Remains to be seen whether BJP funding momentum at that level can be sustained.

Modi himself won't be re-elected after this Covid fiasco - if Indians have ANY sense of what an eff-up has been made of planning and logistics.

But I underestimate Indian behavior....

Watch

Before 2024 elections

Modi G will cook up some cheap drama--- with either PAK or BD to get reelected. Probably BD as he will use this BJP defeat in WB to his advantage. He will also declare India Hindu rashtra.

Or

BJP will field yogi G. That guy is even more entertaining then Modi G.

BJP tried to woo younger voters by floating younger actresses as saffron candidates.

This is something unique and new in Indian politics.

TMC also fields glamour candidates who know nothing about politics
