Malik seeks Mengal’s help to make Balochistan peaceful

QUETTA: The chief minister-designate of Balochistan, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, has sought support of BNP-M president Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal to steer the province out of the current situation and make it a peaceful place.

Talking to newsmen after meeting Sardar Mengal at his residence here on Monday night, Dr Malik expressed the desire that the BNP-M chief should point out shortcomings and mistakes of the incoming coalition government while sitting on opposition benches in the Balochistan Assembly.

National Party secretary general Mir Tahir Bizenjo and BNP-M leader Sana Baloch also attended the meeting.

“I came to meet Sardar Mengal in line with Balochistan’s traditions,” Dr Malik said, adding that the NP and BNP-M were branches of one tree, but certain circumstances had separated them.

He said he had urged Sardar Mengal to support the coming government keeping in view serious problems faced by the province and to strengthen democracy and democratic traditions.

“We want to make Balochistan a peaceful province,” Dr Malik said, adding that all political parties having democratic thinking should get united for restoring peace and making Balochistan a prosperous province.

He said that he had requested Sardar Mengal to sit in the opposition and tell the government about its mistakes for improvement of its performance.

In reply to a question, Dr Malik said there would be a very serious and difficult situation if violation of human rights, dumping of mutilated bodies of Baloch youths and target killings were not stopped by his coalition government.

He said his party had made it clear to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif that a principled stand should be taken for resolving the issues of missing persons, target killings and dumping of mutilated bodies because the province could not afford “non-serious decisions”.

“If serious steps are not taken for improving the prevailing situation, problems will increase manifold.”

Sardar Mengal told newsmen that in the present political situation “we can just pray for Dr Sahib”.

He said there was a need to bring a change in the attitude of the forces which were responsible for dumping mutilated bodies, target killings and kidnapping of political workers.
