Malik Ishaq was set to join IS before his death, says official

A source in the govt told me this, he was set to join IS. After his detention, he ( Malik Ishaq) was asked to call in the entire top leadership to Muzafargarh, where the security officials told him that they wanted to have discussion with the LEJ leadership. Once everyone came to Muzafargarh, they were gunned down, in a fake encounter. Almost the entire top and middle level LEJ leadership was wiped off that day, which was a huge success for Pakistan security forces.

i Guess only a Pigeon would think (believe) the encounter was Real .... Nevertheless Good Riddance !

I don't know about the rest but Shamzai was a known supporter of Ludhianvi who is one of the heads of SSP/LEJ. He was buried with an LEJ militant Almost all men targetted by the Sipah e Muhammed were killers of shias. Also some incidences have taken place where rioting shias have burned sunni shops but these incidences are much rarer than the killing of shias. Lets note that Jinnah was shia too. Anyway my views will differ from many people on this reality.

We will drift away from the thread .. My Best friend is A Gilgiti Shia .. we have long LONG discussions about it .. from Zia Era to the most recent target killing (2 years ago) ... thr are some valid reasons & reservation on the shia side ... and i would agree most of thr attacks are in retaliation & most of the time targeted, but ALL of them were not legitimate targets (IMO including the two Scholars mentioned above, i have read them & attended the Dars at Karachi Binori Town) .. Baqi Dilon ka Haal aur Pardfay k Peechay k kaam Allah Hi Janay !!!!

lets agree to this ...
1- we need to Eliminate this Shia Sunni hate ...
2- remove the influence both groups enjoys & I can Argue all day long (but don't want too, as it will bring to no fruition ) Shia Enjoys significant Influence where it matters ...
3- Cut the Supply line of these two sects .. Even if Means bringing the matter to the Two Countries !

I know it is not easy task, nor a days job .. but this what needs to be done ... sooner thn later !

Every body seems to avoiding one issue which belongs to non-terrorists or extremists which is cursing in Majalis. What you say about that should Govt ban this core issue which becomes the main cause of many killings even rioting like Rawalpindi.
@Ifrit

ISLAMABAD: Claims are reverberating within Pakistan about accelerated efforts in recent months by the Islamic State (IS), also known as Da’ish, to gain a foothold in the country. Authorities have even arrested some local militants believed to be linked with the Middle Eastern extremist group.

But the biggest and perhaps more potent threat from
IS was yet to come until security agencies in July this year discovered that Malik Ishaq, the co-founder of the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) sectarian extremist group, was all set to formally join Da’ish just days before he was killed in a police encounter in southern Punjab.

Ishaq, accused of being behind sectarian killings and attacks, was killed along with 13 others including his two sons on July 29 in a firefight when his loyalists attacked a police convoy in Muzaffargarh.

There were reports that the LeJ chief was in contact with Da’ish but the extent of his involvement with the ultra-extremist group has never been told before. A security official with the knowledge of the development told The Express Tribune that Ishaq was to become the chief of IS in Pakistan.

“Some material such as flags and pamphlets showing allegiance to Da’ish was confiscated from them [LeJ supporters],” said the official, who requested not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the issue.

The potential threat posed by IS through local extremist outfits such as the LeJ then prompted the federal government to ban the group in Pakistan. The move was aimed at giving a legal arm to the police and security agencies to act swiftly against any individual or group that may attempt to join hands with Da’ish.

“The killing of Ishaq was no less than a coup against the possible emergence of Da’ish in the country,” remarked another official.

Ishaq was known to have developed close links with al Qaeda and was accused of some of the deadliest attacks in Pakistan, such as the 2009 assault on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore.

But the official said with the significant downgrading of al Qaeda in Pakistan coupled with stringent new anti-terror measures, the LeJ was struggling to find financial resources. “That was the main reason the LeJ was trying to join Da’ish,” he said.

Officially, Pakistan is still adamant that IS does not pose an immediate threat to Pakistan.

At his recent weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah said Pakistan was cognisant of the threat posed by Da’ish and had alerted security agencies accordingly, but made it clear that the group had no footprint in Pakistan.

Good riddance.

I agree. Those who spread hatred should be killed without mercy. We should chase them down wherever they hide. LEJ will choose a new leader. That leader also needs to be sent to hell. Akram Lahori and Riaz Basra should be next. Killing one leader is not enough-eliminating the entire tree, from the root is the real task.

Raiz basra was killed several years ago. Akram Lahori was hanged earlier this year. The fourth founder of LeJ was also killed along with malik ishaq. Now what its left , is their mid-tier leadership. Just before Yome Ashura, 8 of their members ,including some of their commanders were apprehended from Dubai and brought back.

ASWJ seems to be next in line. If you have been following the news lately, you will find that ASWJ leaders are being constantly harassed by the state. This is a sign that soon the state will start neutralizing them. :butcher:
