Sinovac is hardly used in China. China mainly uses CanSino which was jointly developed by Canada and China and much more effective than Sinovac.

Pfizer is the distributor. In China it is distributed by Fosun. The vaccine was developed by BioNTech. Also, it's nobody compared to 2nd gen mRNA such as Walvax (Walmart vax) which does not need refrigeration.

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Solution Group Bhd’s (SGB) wholly-owned subsidiary, Solution Biologics Sdn Bhd (SolBio) has signed a finished product and a bulk product agreement today with CanSino Biologics Inc for the supply of the Recombinant Ad5-nCoV vaccine for use against Covid-19.

In a statement, the group said the finished product agreement allows SolBio to purchase and CanSino to supply the finish product vaccine for emergency use in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the bulk agreement will see CanSino supply the active pharmaceutical ingredients for the fill and finish (F&F) to SolBio and both agreements come with a period of ten years with immediate effect, it said.

SGB deputy group managing director Datuk Dr Mohd Nazlee Kamal said the first shipment of the finished doses will be delivered by August and the subsequent batches are also on schedule.

"The CanSino vaccine being a single-dose vaccine makes it more efficient to administer, especially in rural and difficult-to-reach areas, which makes for huge savings in terms of logistics and other resources needed to be deployed for the nationwide vaccination programme,” he said.

Both agreements allow SolBio to fulfill its obligation to supply 3.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to the Health Ministry (MOH) and accepting additional orders from MOH, state governments, private sector and other Asean countries.

In addition, SolBio would have the capacity to supply booster shots, should it be required for those who have been fully inoculated with other Covid-19 vaccines.

"With the supply agreement, we are confident to fulfil more than the government’s current requirement and we believe the supply of the vaccine known as Convidecia will help to boost the vaccination rate in Malaysia sharply to meet the government’s accelerated target of immunising the country’s entire population against Covid-19 by October 2021,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the bulk product agreement will enable SolBio to do the F&F and supply in Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, and Singapore.

CanSino has also authorised SolBio to develop the business in these countries for the vaccine through working with respective local partners, authorities, and regulatory bodies.

"Our primary focus is to fulfil the MOH supply, which we have signed in early April this year and expect to complete by October 2021,” Mohd Nazlee said.

Meanwhile, SGB is planning to expand the vaccine distribution to other Asean countries.

It is in talks with the governments of Thailand and the Philippines for the vaccine supply and are expecting emergency use approval by August where we target to supply five to 10 million doses to each country.

SGB also is on track with the set-up of the F&F facility to produce the Covid-19 vaccine in Malaysia and the F&F facility at Technology Park Malaysia will start production next month which can produce up to three million doses per month.

"We are arranging for good manufacturing practices (GMP) audit by National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) in August and once GMP certification is obtained, we can move full steam ahead in the production of the vaccine,” he added.

SolBio received conditional approval of the Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use from Malaysia’s Drug Control Authority in June 2021 and the vaccine has also been approved for emergency use in China, Chile, Mexico, Pakistan, Hungary, Ecuador and Argentina.- Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 ― Negotiations with Pfizer Incorporation have begun for Malaysia’s 2022 vaccine procurement, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.


In the weekly Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) press conference, Khairy said that he would be making an announcement on the price of the vaccines from the American biopharmaceutical company, following reports that Pfizer and Moderna have raised their selling price for European nations.

The Financial Times (FT) reported that the new price for the Pfizer shot is now €19.50 (RM98) from €15.50 euros previously, citing parts of the contract it sighted.


Citing an official with knowledge on the development, FT reported that the price of a dose of the Moderna vaccine meanwhile, has been fixed at US$25.50 from the initial US$22.60 in the first procurement deal. This was, however, reported to be lower than the previously agreed US$28.50 as the order was larger.


“I have begun negotiations with Pfizer for the purchase of Pfizer vaccines for 2022. The negotiations just started and we have yet to finalise the procurement needed by Malaysia, including the selling price which would be offered by Pfizer.

“When we have finalised, I will inform the media regarding the price, as to whether the price is the same as what we purchased or the price has changed. I have tabled the price to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC),” Khairy, who is also the coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP), said.

“For Coronavac or Sinovac, the distributor, Pharmaniaga, has already completed their supply distribution of 14,400,000 doses. Khairy also dismissed all rumours from various parties that the country’s decision to stop using the Sinovac vaccines was allegedly due to the concerns over the vaccine’s efficacy.

He noted that Malaysia will receive its completed delivery order by the end of July.

“We have finished using the supplies of Sinovac vaccines. Our orders have all been delivered by Pharmaniaga Bhd.

“This has nothing to do with alleged speculations over the vaccine’s efficacy.

“I have seen much speculation on why we had to stop using Sinovac but it is only because we have received our entire delivery,” he said during the press conference on the NCIP development last Friday.

He also noted that Pharmaniaga is aware that in any contingency, the government may call them to produce more vaccines as they have the fill-and-finish facility here in Malaysia.

According to the minister, the government had procured 15 million doses of Sinovac vaccines in total.

This includes an extra three million doses that the government had recently ordered, which Khairy said will be delivered by the end of July or early August.

Previously, Khairy had stated that the delivery of Sinovac vaccines was to last until November, but the government had requested for it to be brought forward to accelerate the country’s vaccination programme.

Khairy also said from August onwards, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines will be the main ones to be used in vaccination centres (PPVs) for the NCIP.

On proposals to give booster shots to those who received the Sinovac vaccines, he said the ministry did not have enough data to make a decision although the ministry would continue to monitor and study global developments.

Meanwhile, Khairy said staff in PPVs have been directed not to turn away migrant workers who have vaccination appointments via MySejahtera.

He added that those who have appointments stated on their MySejahtera would be vaccinated accordingly as stated in the system.

On other matter, Khairy said volunteers in PPVs who have yet to be immunised will be given the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as soon as possible, although most of them have already been vaccinated.

This is in response to the news that 204 staff at Ideal Convention Centre PPV were tested positive last week, forcing the centre to be shut for a day.

“Our policy now is to get them vaccinated using the spare doses that we have.

“The ministry has instructed for the new rotation of volunteers to be vaccinated as soon as possible,” he added.

Despite the exponential increase in the country’s vaccination rate, Khairy said he is still maintaining his projection of vaccinating 80% of the adult population by December.

“Things are looking good so far. I do believe that we can shorten the timeline.

“However, we are greatly dependent on the vaccine supply. So, we want to keep our estimates conservative,” he said.

Last Friday, Khairy announced that all senior citizens in Klang Valley who have yet to receive a Covid-19 vaccination appointment on MySejahtera, can go to any PPVs in Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Selangor to get their vaccine jabs starting from July 17.

He said a special lane for senior citizens aged 60 and above would be provided in the PPVs to ensure a smoother vaccination process.

Additionally, he also said the government had introduced the Operation Surge Capacity initiative to ensure that every adult in KL and Selangor will receive at least the first dose of their two-shot Covid-19 vaccination by Aug 1.

He added that the initiative was important due to the sharp increase in daily cases of Covid-19 in KL and Selangor lately.

Pfizer won't work well in Malaysia because too hot. Pfizer need -70C or else it breaks and also has very short shelf life. We shall see how well it performs. Anyway, Walvax (Walmart vax) should be ready next year for export to Malaysia. This one don't need refrigeration and has long shelf life.
