BEIJIJNG, Oct. 24 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and his Malaysian counterpart Abdullah Ahmad Badawi held talks here on Friday on the side-lines of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit, and reiterated their resolve to boost their bilateral ties in political, social and economic sectors. The two prime ministers reviewed their bilateral cooperation and agreed to accelerate the process of implementing the projects already undertaken by the two countries, especially in the agriculture sector.
While discussing regional issues, the Malaysian Prime Minister appreciated Pakistans role on the counter-terrorism and assured his countrys support making the region free of terrorism and extremism. He said the two countries would continue maintaining close contacts for promoting peace, security and development at the regional and international level for the well being of their people.
It was noted that the two countries enjoyed complete understanding on the matters of bilateral interests, aimed at achieving socio-economic progress and helping each other to boost bilteral trade and business.
Prime Minister Gilani recalled his visit to Malaysia in July this year, on the occasion of D-8 summit and said it proved very productive initiating joint projects in the agriculture sector. The two prime minister emphasized that there should be greater emphasis on the development of agriculture sector, in view of fast price escalation in food products and oil in the world market.
Malaysian Prime Minister assured early implementation of the agreements, under which, his country will help Pakistan developing agriculture sector, especially through provision of fertilizer, animal feeds and agriculture seeds.
In the field of manpower, he said Malaysia will acquire services of 1000 skilled workers from Pakistan. He hoped training process of these workers should be started immediately. He asked the Pakistani side to identify the projects to be undertaken in light of the decisions of D-8 summit held in Malaysia.
During half an hour meeting held at a local hotel, the two Prime Ministers also discussed their future cooperation at the level of the United Nations. They appreciated the initiative taken by Saudi government arranging an international conference in New York next month, for promoting inter-faith harmony among different civilizations.
