JERUSALEM: Malala Yousafzai, the youngest ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate, is to donate $50,000 (39,000 euros) to help rebuild United Nations schools in Gaza, the UN's Palestinian refugee agency said Wednesday.

The 17-year-old Pakistani children's rights activist won the World Children's Prize in Stockholm on Tuesday, and said she would donate all of that prize money to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, UNRWA said in a statement.

“Innocent Palestinian children have suffered terribly and for too long,” UNRWA quoted Malala as saying. “We must all work to ensure Palestinian boys and girls, and all children everywhere, receive a quality education in a safe environment.”

Several UNRWA schools were damaged during the 50-day conflict in July and August between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip, and nearly 2,200 Palestinians were killed, almost a quarter of them children.

On the Israeli side, 73 people were killed, including one child.

UNRWA's director Pierre Krahenbuhl said he was “deeply touched” by Malala's decision to donate her prize money to the agency.

“Recognition by you, a Nobel laureate... will lift the spirits of a quarter of a million UNRWA students in Gaza and boost the morale of our more than 9,000 teaching staff there,” he said.

Malala, who survived being shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012, was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize earlier in October, alongside India's 60-year-old Kailash Satyarthi for their championing of children's rights.

Earlier this month, Malala also received the US Liberty Medal and pledged her $100,000 award to education in her homeland Pakistan.

Good move by Malala, glad to see she's actually doing something for education. Her efforts are admirable.

Indeed, gaza is good to use for publicity, people in Gaza are better of then many others in the region. Better for him to help people in his own country instead.
Yet people repeatedly keep falling for the west organized activities of these west sponsored puppets.

.
why not malala give money to west bank schools instead?? the hamas mullahs in gaza are already full with money from iran, usa and saudia...

Better for him to help people in his own country instead.

malala is a "her". :-)

Hamas fires rockets and gets billions. Thats why they fire on first place.

More rockets throwing, means more money, means more luxury stuff for Hamas leaders, means more jobs and less unemployment of Gazans created by rebuilding destroyed buildings with Iran's money, and overall means pumping money and more arms for Gazans and more demonizing Israel by media. Of course they know this and that's why they throw rockets.

Wow dude! That is impressive, really!

Help us? That would be only if she spent that money in Pakistan for schools.

She's an immense help even if she spends all that money by burning it in her fire place.
Her very presence in media does us good.

And I agree, my first reaction was, it should have been done in Pakistan instead. But given what her nation thinks of her (some fine examples in this thread), Gaza's a nice cause that Muslims seem to rally around, and gullible Pakistanis seem to fall for.

If this is your only input, then please don't comment.

You retaliate, Hamas gets billions.

So either way they end up with billions right? Anyway, leave this discussion for another thread.

No matter what she does, she will be seen as a traitor and agent for the Juice. This is the nation that regards an assignment for students in the Model UN as heresy, she will be damned no matter where she donates the money:

Paradoxically, her donation will also serve to bring out more irrational hatred. Isn't that interesting?

Part in bold, my thoughts exactly. I had a think about this before posting here, not knowing what to say, I just said God bless her for being a kid who donated to charity.

And yeah, Pakistanis are gullible people, last week I heard one fellow trying to tell me how Ebola is a creation of the evil Juice/Joos to con us for vaccination/drug money and population control.

Our creativity is something to be admired.
