Majority of Europeans say China will overtake 'broken' US within decade

China will never be a global hegemon like the US. Because for it to become one....it first has to take a tiny island next to itself called Taiwan...

Wake me up when it does that. If at all...

Then, it'll have to risk sending soldiers around the world to suppress anyone acting against Chinese interests. Then we'll see if the Chinese are who they say there are. Obviously, take Taiwan first and show everyone if you actually have what it takes to surpass the US.

for a country to be golbal hegemony it must chek off these attributes

1-Most powerful military .... china is currently not
2- Developed and biggest economy.... china is neither of those things yet
3-haveits currency as world reserve.... china has yet to tick this boss
4-have global cultural influence..... china is not
e.g: the whole world speaks english.... when avengers come out everyone knows no one can tell which chinese movie is coming out...the globe knows michael jackson etc etc
5- have global softpower influence..... china only has softpower with pakistan and north korea
6 - most advance in science & technology holisticallu
7-control the global financial system.... china tried with BRICS but so far unsuccessful
example is how US is the only country that can put sanctions on everyone its because their financial system is adopted by the entire world and thier laws applies to ut

When did China say she wanted to be global hegemony? Hegemony is a bad word in Chinese.

hegemoney, superpower, hyperpower. read the room no one is talking literally. but we are talking about the aspects of what it takes to be a superpower. the subject matter of this thread
Foregin reports can claim whatever we want to be, but we never saied we want to be superpowers or seek global hegemony.

Thats all just you uneducated/selfdeluding personal spin to rationalize away inconvenient facts.

You cut yourself with a trade war you started and you surrendered with a face saving "deal" that brought absolutely nothing new to the table. No one "cares" about your "phase last" deal, not just because its irrelevant, but an embarrassment for you because everyone knows if you had the upper hand you would never had aggreed to end your own tradewar with a deal that does not remotely resolve the situation you pulled up to justify why you started it in first place. In fact your failure here is a much more reasonable hypothesis why most European countries ignored your threats against them benefiting from dealing with China just for your sake.

You failed to make Europeans pawns to isolate China. Your suggestion that CAI is a result of Americas face saving "deal" is retarded. The talks for CAI where publicly initiated over half a year before Americas face saving "deal" with China was signed and published. The unbsubstantial suggestions that CAI only benefits Europe are just scripted American rethoric to cope with the plain fact that China and Europe did exactly what they have been talking about for years and deepened relations. But in your echochamber of American state controlled propaganda mouthpieces you call "free press" that always comes out filtered as headlines of Europe somehow rejecting China, as if the bulk of American citizen are too dumb to do two more clicks to find out the statements said the exact opposite of your media.

what was the war about? that a trade deficit exist between us and you? and what did xijinping agreed to? ok well buy enough shit so no trade deficit exists. son not only have u no command on proper grammar you're out of common sense too.

irrelevant facts?. if you had the upper hand why did you agree to buy from us to close the trade deficit? why didnt u "the upper hand" party's imply said no were gona stick ot the trade deficit we had? why did ur president kept wanting to create a deal. why did you agree to open markets to the U.S? it was clear US had the power to bring u to the table and make u admit to the terms that on face value seems good. but whether in practice it will happen i dont believe so. again anyone with common sense will ponder over it except for listening to their own propogendic media

we constantly sail our ships on the strait you claim as yours. if you have any upper why dont u stop us violating your sovereignty all we hear are some blatant newa of US is causing tension etc etc

we literally took the grandaughter of the biggest financier of your CCP party. your government oculdnt do shit. all it did was arrest some canadians. come back to reality kid

when something is "unsubstantial" it means there are no words backing it. when CAI says that your country will stop thieving our technologies on the face it looks good., whether its enforced or not its a different questions whats "unsubstantiated" is claiming is that this is all failes, rhetoric this and that and yati yati yata
Foregin reports can claim whatever we want to be, but we never saied we want to be superpowers or seek global hegemony.

i agree. In a world with two competing superpowers. it is beneficial for smaller countries becasue then superpower needs to keep wooing them to prevent them from joining the other side or keep them on their. One global hegemony is bad for the world because then it becomes might is right. and technically this is the case with U.S

"Allies" start to break ranks at the first sign of weaknesses. That's why China is never crazy about the idea of "allies".

Soviet never came toe to toe with US in economy, industries, manufacturing and trade, China is still not a military power, the poll is about the overall economy.
historically multiple power went at it alone. We saw what happened to them..we saw wha happened to japan, germany, even russia, which never really had good allies just annexed countries

the real power that USA has is from it allies

Becoming a superpower doesn’t happen overnight. I am pretty sure China will check off most of those boxes in 20 to 30 years. Btw during the 2008 crisis, China’s gdp was only at 30% of the US, now it’s 75%.

also China is already the worlds largest market for most goods.Ppp wise it is already by far the biggest economy.

Soviets came toe to toe with the US, even exceeded US in science and technology for a while and had half the world on their side including china but eventually lost. it will take many more decades to see how the world politics shift and who comes on top.

To be a world power enough to put your own world order in the map. you have to be a hyperpower for a while. U.S was lucky that it was the only one after WW2 and then when soviets fell. otherwise it will most likely lead to an unending coldwar

Soviets didn't. Soviets maxed out at 1/2 GDP of US in 1970's but were usually 30-40% US GDP. They lacked major technologies like semiconductors and CNC machinery. China is so competitive, sanctions have to dig super deep in the supply chain to look for obscure monopolies to hit while they could hit the Soviet economy directly with simple sanctions.

China has already surpassed the US in probably half of the most critical technological fields. Although the US is still dominant in many key technologies. But it’s already gotten too close for comfort hence the tech war.

They hold the lead in niche monopolies in industries they set the standards for decades ago.

For example, how many companies need to buy digital IC design software? The market size is tiny, market cap of each of these companies is a few billion dollars. Compared to hundreds of billions for semiconductor sales overall, and trillions for electronics. But because they started this industry in the 1960's and were the early standard setters they have a monopoly on this one tiny market that nonetheless, they control.

Here's the problem though: you can only play the niche monopoly card once because everyone's money is the same. It is literally 100x easier for Huawei with $120 billion revenue to just buy or develop its own design software, than it is for a $1.2 billion revenue design software company to develop 5G. If you try to choke off the upstream without controlling the profitable midstream and downstream, you better make sure it is absolutely crippling... or you lose that card forever.

True but overall the US is still technologically ahead in key areas like jet manufacturing, space technology, etc. China has moved past the US in 5G tech, some AI and obviously infrastructure capabilities.

@Itachi whatever happens between the PRC and Taiwan, you can rest assured that the ummah will still be bombed by America and Russia, abused by wealthy Arab crypto-atheists, manipulated by Turkey, and "re-educated" by China. You're going to remain at the bottom - how do you feel about that?

i dont think so. when 2007 recession hit the U.S. the prediction was china will overtake US economy by 2020. but did not happen.

for an economic superpower to be it must have a developed AND the biggest economy. currently china is a developing economy based on GDP/capita and the 2nd largest

Currently china is at 50-58% off GDP going by 2019 numbers. but what chinas has to avoid is to be in the middle income trap. Japan, South korea, when they all had GDP growth like china has right now they all fell into the middle income trap. and if china avoids it then it will definitely become a developed economy.

FYI: middle income trap happens when a developing economy is growing rapidly. however the economy is still reliant on exports. so as it grows the standard of living gets better as well and labor gets expensive and there is a point. where your economy is still reliant mostly on exports but the labor has become expensive enough that the importers no longer find it competitive. so the exports are shifted to the next developing country and the country stays in that middle income trap.

If they can avoid that china willh have developed enough that it can rely on domestic economy and oculdnt carless whether exports are shifted or not.

That’s why they are trying to move up the value added chain in what they export. They are looking to what Germany does, and reinvest into R&D to catch-up in key technologies; what was the 2025 plan. If the rest of the world can keep them from catching up, then they could get stuck in the middle income trap, and become a spent force.

China’s domestic market is already by far the biggest for any technological good so there is literally nothing the West can do to rob China of that engine.
