Most if not all vehicles manufactured in India are good for Pakistan. Currently, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has all the right products for the Pakistani market. For example, the PakSuzuki Mehran could be replaced by the Maruti Alto 800, the Cultus by the new Maruti SX4, the old PakSuzuki Swift by the new Indian Swift ...and the list goes on. Toyota and Honda (India) have south/south-east Asia specific models like the Etios/Liva, Brio/upcoming Brio MPV etc., that the masses in Pakistan could do with instead of relying on overpriced junk peddled by Indus/Atlas. Most products (including passenger vehicles, SUVs and commercial vehicles) from the TATA and Mahindra stable will work well across the border, in a JV model.

If trade liberalisation norms are put in place effectively, then VW (India), General Motors (India), Skoda (with their awesome Laura, Octavia, Superb, and Yeti models), Hyundai (india - with their Verna, i-10/Grande/20, Elantra, Sonata) Toyota and Honda (India) could start assembling quality SKD/CKD kits across the border.

In order for Pakistan to improve it's auto industry, Pakistan need to manufacture these vehicles and majority of the parts in Pakistan.

Not gonna happen atleast for next 5-10 years, as still there is no sign of MFN being given to India n i don't see it coming anytime soon either(as currently there is a ban on automobiles from India).

Besides even if Pak govt finally decides to give MFN to India, there would still be restrictions on automobiles(as there is a high resistance from Pak Auto lobby).

It doesn't have to be from India.... Iran and China are also willing to invest in Pakistani Auto industries but problem is Pakistani politics/Politicians. They want kickbacks for every investment......

1. Plz read again, my post was in response to ur post about JVs with Indian Companies.

2. AFAIK Chinese r already in Pak but they will never set up manufacturing unit outside China.

3. Iran is a good option but economic sanctions n stiff competion from Japanese will not allow them to make any significant impact.

4. Ur main problem in monopoly of Japanese manufacturers in Pak, unless u open ur industry to other manufacturers from countries like Korea, Germany, France, India, etc. Nothing is gonna change.

5. Last n the most important issue is poor security situation coupled with load sheding is the root cause for all the problems in Pak industry.

Besides what ur ignoring here is that unless there is an demand base large enough for a particular product(be it Mehran or BMW), no company will set up a manufacturing unit.

Initially everybody will try to sell CKDs or SKDs units only but gradually IF the demand is high enough n competition is good, they will set up a manufacturing unit.

Anyways, i think we r going a bit off topic here, so lets leave this discussion for a better place n time.

Any details bro? Is the chassis and engine/gearbox the same or refinements/new? What about cabin space (where the Scorpio always loses out to the Safari)? Also, any improvement to the suspension (Scorpio middle row is hell for passengers with motion sickness).

P.S. I like the treatment to the front end and the bumper.

Pakistan needs to setup Car assembly/manufacturing line in KPK to export these vehicles to Afghanistan and central Asian countries.
Anothers should be setup in Gwadar and Pasni area.
