What's new

Made in India Vehicles

Bro, Force sells a large number of panel vans. In fact, out on the streets, there are more FT panel vans than there are passenger versions. There is a market out there - all we need is for manufacturers to take more interest and push hard.

I would think that it's mostly because of localisation issues. Create awareness, bring prices down to compete with other products (yes, I believe it can be done albeit with great difficulty), and you'll have a winner in this market.

P.S: I love the 2014 Ford Transit. :)
Good to wrt the Force panel vans- can you share who uses it and for what wrt commercial purposes?
I don't get to India as much as I'd like so I'm out of touch wrt the ground realities. In my mind Travellers were only used as mini-buses and Ambulances- obviously I was wrong.

Coming to localisation, well they can do it if they are prepared to invest long term. You can see the benefits and rewards of this on their passenger vehicle front where these locally produced vehicles are giving Indian incumbents a run for their money and are capturing signifcant market share themselves. Same is true, somewhat, for the HGV sector- look at Volvo, MAN and in the future Burat-Benz and Scania. If they invest enough into India they will drive the price right down and reap the rewards in the long term.

I'd like to see more such vehicles plying Indian roads instead of overloaded, open top, LCVs.

@Bombaywalla- the 2014 Transit is FUGLY IMHO! Been a big fan of the latest gen VW Crafter series though! And I have to say the latest Merc Sprinters are a favourite too!

But I have doubt that they offer such price tag which force traveller offers, starting from 10.87 lacs . I think those vehicle targets luxury segment

As @Bombaywalla said- it's about localisation. If they can get localisation to a high enough level then prices will go through the floor.

I've seen a couple of restaurant chains, my local grocers, Mercedes Benz mobile service and a whole bunch of other businesses and establishments use FT panel vans in the city. You're absolutely right about the majority of ambulances and minivans being passenger versions of the FT, though. You should visit the country more often, mate, there's so much to do and so much fun to be had :D

Do you not think the Ford transit connect wagon 2014 looks so damn boxy? I saw the TV AD for this and I couldn't believe they had designed to look like this!

VW Crafter FTW:

+ @Bombaywalla I'd love to go to India more often, for various reasons it is just not possible at the moment.

I'm mighty impressed by all the "extras" that will be added:

Stuff such as all weather cameras at the front and the rear, an all weather laptop and printer, pannier boxes to carry first aid kits and paraphernalia to cordon off crime scenes, LED beacons and additional batteries to support all this gadgetry are the various features that the custom cop bike is expected to feature
