Western Marine Shipyard Limited successfully completed river trial of International SOLAS Passenger Ship MV. MATALIKI on 2nd July 2015 at Karnaphully river, Chittagong, Bangladesh.
MV Mataliki will be mainly used to transport the people of Tokelau which is a New Zealand controlled state in the Pacific.
The construction of the ship was initiated on the 19th of February 2014. This project has been identified as a milestone for opening Bangladeshi shipbuilding for the pacific region small vessels market .
The complete ship was built under class Lloyd’s Register, UK & the ship is under IMO SOLAS [Safety of Life at Sea] rule which means the ship has highest safety measures considering all possible risks at sea.
The ship is able to carry 60 passengers in addition to 50 tonnes of cargo and supplies. The ship is 43m long with eco-friendly machinery which will operate in the Pacific as a Green Ship.

Factory of Sarker Steel Limited is one of the best steel structure manufacturing facilities in Bangladesh.
The factory is housed in a covered area of 55330 square meters and has four independent lines of production with modern machinery. In addition this company has separate lines for cold forming of roof panels, wall panels and translucent sheets. It also has light fabrication production lines for door manufacture and other building items.
Production Department of this factory has sections like Cutting & Fitting, fabrication, Welding, Grinding, Shot Blasting, Painting, Cold forming and Fiber Shop. Engineers, Welders and other technical staff-members are all well trained and certified in their respective professions.
Quality Control Department is adequately equipped to conduct QC Tests relevant to steel structures.
The factory has ample arrangements for storage of raw materials as well as finished products both in open yards as well as inside the Production Building. A High capacity Gantry Crane and modern Bridge Scales help the proper loading & unloading as well as precise weighing of incoming and outgoing materials.
The factory is equipped to supply full electrical power needs of its machinery from its own generators which ensures continuous uninterrupted production of all four lines.

How about some recent shipbuilding examples from Bangladesh....considering all the hubbub about riverine passenger communication and inland container shipping. These projects have just started - so renders only for now.
The first example is a typical 300 passenger Intercity Launch (primarily serving routes like Dhaka-Chandpur-Barisal-Khulna). There are at least 200~250 such vessels plying this route at present, some identical to this one.
Bangladesh uses deck-loaders to transport heavy logistics items like steel coil and containers.
