Ananda Shipyards and Slipways is a Bangladeshi shipbuilding company. It is the first Bangladeshi shipbuilding company to deliver a seagoing vessel to a foreign customer. It is a part of the Ananda Group of companies.

A family owned enterprise, today it is the largest shipyard in the private sector in Bangladesh. It was originally founded in 1983 on the Buriganga river as Ananda Builders Ltd. Later, as the business grew, the yard was shifted to its present location on the Meghna river in 1985. In 1999 the yard went through modernization and capacity upgrade and the name was changed to Ananda Shipyards and Slipways Ltd. (ASSL).

The shipyard has a production area of 80,000 square meters. With a workforce of about 700, it produces about 8000 tonnes in terms of consumed steel per year. [1] Till November of 2008 the company has received orders worth $373 millions from European and African buyers for building 34 vessels

The Western Marine Shipyard is one of the largest and newest shipbuilding company in Bangladesh. It is designing and building ships and vessels for civil customers and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation. Now it's exporting quality full ship and vessel in different Asian, European country like Germany, Denmark etc. It started its shipbuilding activities since 1994 under the umbrella of Western Marine Group.

Stella Moon, made in Bangladesh(Chittagong, Bangladesh ), Bangladeshi made Stella Moon, a container ship, was delivered to Denmark on Saturday. In 2008 Bangladesh supplied the first ocean going ship to an international buyer. And it was the Danish Stella Shipping who made history by buying a multipurpose vessel of 2.900 DWT produced at the local yard Ananda.

We took a chance by producing our first ship, Stella Maris, in Bangladesh as opposed to Vietnam for example. But after a few visits to Bangladesh we were confident that our local partner was up to the task, and with support from Danida?s B2B program we planned a number training programmes at the yard?, says CEO of Stella Shipping, Jan Fabricius.

It has not been an easy task to build a ship in Bangladesh, according to Jan Fabricius. The industry needs time to learn how to do business internationally. There are simple procedures and agreements that are not established in the local way of doing business. But this will come and overall Stella Shipping is satisfied with the actual construction and quality of the ships, according to Jan Fabricius.

We have not regretted our choice and pioneer work in Bangladesh. The quality of the ships already delivered is first-rate and moreover, our analysis shows that we saved 10-15% of the cost by building the ship in Bangladesh compared to e.g. Vietnam.? affirms CEO, Jan Fabricius.

Ferries, Passenger Boats and Water Taxis for Mozambique

In 2006 the World Bank funded UGPTC tender (Unidade de Gestâo dos Projetos de Transportes e Communicacôes) awarded the construction and delivery for Maputo Sea Port in Mozambique to JGH A/S:
1 Ferry
1 Landing Craft
1 Passenger Cargo Boat
3 Water Taxis
All vessels were built at the Ananda Shipyard and Slopways in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Upon completion in December the vessels were 2008 transported by semi-submersible from Mongola Port in Bangladesh across The Indian Ocean to Port of Maputo in Mozambique.
The project was one of the first of this complexity carried out as "South-South", meaning that not only the receiving country (Mozambique) is benefitting, but also another developing country, in this case Bangladesh benefits from the construction in forms of jobs and local industrial development.

Bangladesh: Western Marine Shipyard Delivers Two Passenger Ships To Pakistan

Western Marine Shipyard​ has delivered two passenger ships to Karachi Port Trust in Pakistan (KPT) yesterday. The ships were delivered through a function at the Western Marines shipyard in Chittagong. Industry minister Dilip Barua was present as chief guest and High Commissioner of Pakistan H.E. Afrasiab was present as special guest at the function.

General Manager of Karachi Port Trust Operations Rear Admiral Azhar Hayat Western Marine Shipyard chairman Saiful Islam and managing director Sakhawat Hossain, local dignitaries, heads of government bodies were also present at the occasion.

The passenger ships with a carrying capacity of 215 passengers & 10 crews are 30m long and 6.18m wide. The depth of the vessels is 1.8m each.

Western Marine Shipyard was awarded this order upon competing in an international tender, where ship builders of Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and other nations were also took part. The construction work of these ships was initiated on the October 2010 and they have been constructed at a cost of BDT20 crore.

Industry minister Dilip Barua said that Western Marine has always uplifted the image of Bangladesh in the globe and they have proven their quality and productivity once again by delivering these ships to KPT.

Saiful Islam said, “It is the first time a Bangladeshi shipyard is delivering ships t Pakistan, this will be an example for increased trade among SAARC nations which was discussed in the recent SAARC conference in Maldives.”

Sakhawat Hossain said, “The shipyard has made another record by building 10 ships in the year 2011. The two of which has been delivered to their owner today.”

Pakistan Ambassador Afrasiab was impressed with the ships saying that this will enhance the bilateral relation between Pakistan and Bangladesh
