The both round has its own advantages.5.56 round has more accuracy but less penetrative power.7.62 is a heavy round with more recoil and deep penetrative power but the accuracy Is less than 5.56 nato round . The bullet round chose by the army's own need and choice . The NATO countries prefer 5.56 round where the Soviet block likes to use 7. 62 round . 5.56 round has more tactical advantage like close quarter combat . 7.62 is more like rebel round .Well the world has moved on to 5.56..may be you should too.
It's 6.62 round with better accuracy and deep penetrative powerWell because of recent experiences in the Afghan War and in Iraq - the Jury is still out on the 5.56 ! Hence why the Americans, I think, are designing another caliber that is between the 5.56 and the 7.62 !
