The the only source I could find about this 30-mach wind tunnel that working in the US is they plan to build one in 2008, called "LENS-X", do you even know what does "X" means, smartass?

JF-22 takes the power of Three Gorges Dam to work, even for this assumed LENS-X, it is impossible to match with the power of JF-22,it is from a non-profit agency, at best it should be one of these 0.00...000001 meter diameter working for 0.00...0001 second toy tunnel that has very little engineering meanings, no wonder the Chinese scientists exclude such toy tunnels in their discussion. :rofl:

And have you even read the article, you know what, the way how wind tunnel accelerating the wind speed also matters, not to mention the diameter of the wind tunnel, and how long the wind tunnel can keep that speed (in this case J-22 can keep Mach-30 for 0.13 sec).

No wonder the US lag far far behind China in anything related to hypersonic tests.

It’s LENS XX it was built in 2010 to generate clean uncontaminated high enthalpy flows at velocities up to 35,000 ft/sec or > 10 km / sec = MACH 30.

This is calspan's official website, I could not even find anything on their Mach-30 wind tunnel here, either they dont have it or the tunnel is too insignificant and too useless to mention there:

Btw, other than toy wind tunnel, I seriously doubt a tier-3 unvieristy's research center can maintain a wind tunnel that take the power of Three gogre dam to work.

I can’t help it if you are too stupid to use google to find things yourself. It doesn’t take the power of three gorge dam to run JF-22 genius. JF-22 is powered by chemical reaction not electricity. The author implied if JF22 was attached to a turbine it can produce the same power output as the three gorges damn.

And according to google, this LENS-X is supposed to be located at the research center in Cal-Span yet CalSpan's official website don't even contain the description of they have such wind tunnel.

OK, I finally found this one:

Just the speed, nothing about diameter nothing about duration, and according to their words, the wind tunnel is not even mean to study aerodynamics, so all point to a toy wind tunnel.

I guess thats the reason why the Chinese scientists exclude this toy tunnel in their discussion in the news.

Actually just common sense is enough to tell you a college's center wont have sufficient power to run a wind tunnel that takes the power of Three Gorge Dam to work, but you know, logic and common sense are a rarity among indians, thats why we have to waste a few posts here.

It's for air chemistry and thermal studies only, not aerodynamics. My guess as to why? It's tiny and can't fit aerodynamic models inside.

The LENS-X wind tunnel can hit the hypersonic speeds necessary to test the latest ultrafast aircraft, space planes, and NASA's Orion space vehicle (pictured).

But please don't keep repeating the same nonsense. It does not take the power of the three gorges dam to run JF-22 - you sound stupid. The JF-22 uses chemical explosions not electric power.

Part of China’s success in hypersonics is because of the unique technology used in its wind tunnels. Unlike facilities in other countries – which use mechanical compressors to generate high-speed air flow – the JF-22 uses chemical explosions.

The Green box = LENS XX from 2 km/s to 12 km/s ~ MACH 35 @10 to 90 km altitude.
Wonder why they'd test Fire-II flight experiment, RAM (RIM missiles), Apollo, SLV and space shuttle at LENS XX if it had "no aerodynamics" capability.

Quit grasping at straws.

There are no aerodynamics tests listed here. All of these are chemical and thermal effects that can be tested by coupon samples of the surface material, no need for aerodynamic shaping.

They are likely to be testing surface material for, as they list: ablation effects, surface-gas chemistry and viscous flow at the surface.

A further advantage of the JF-22 is that it has 130 ms run time while the LENS-XX has 1 ms run time (page 4 of CUBR's own publication) which provides 130x more data per experiment and allows for study of stability effects.

CUBR also notes that the LENS-XX has just 200 us of steady state run time (see figure 14).
