If DDP comes back into power in 2016, then I agree no more waiting, reunify by force. But this election gives me confidence that Taiwanese people have seen the light. They can never escape from China's Buddha palm. Future elections will be between those who favor unification right away versus those to favor unification "some time later."

But most of them still believe that there is nothing China can do by military and US is still their most trustworthy ally.

You forget China is the world biggest manufactoring power. When we mass produce our stealth fighter, they will make the skies black (and yet you won't see anything on radar).

Our carrier is already the most powerful carrier in the world excluding the USA. Our upgrades to Varyag make it superior to its sister ship Admiral Kuznetsov. We can use this carrier to do gunship diplomacy on other countries and even the USA will think twice and weigh the risks before confronting us.

Taiwan fears our military might, and elected a pro-China leader. The dominoes are falling. Is Australia one of those dominoes?

When did any of the great powers of history ever "follow the rules"?

Did the British Empire follow the rules when they enslaved and colonized a quarter of the planet?

Did the Americans follow the rules when they had blacks as slaves and wiped out the Native Americans?

No, the world doesn't work like that. Great powers have always manipulated the world to their benefit, that is how it happens. They were not bound by the rules of other nations, but their own rules and their own reasoning.

Yes, there are many brainwashed Taiwanese who want to "maintain the balance of power" in the straits. But by 2016, China will have 3 aircraft carrier battle groups and I'm confident these brainwashed Taiwanese will slowly wake up and refrain from doing something stupid to destroy themselves and their families.

This Varyag is only for training, if it is as good as the US carrier, then it wouldn't be a training carrier.

BTW, the current operational carriers of UK and France are tiny and in small number.

De Gaulle is nuclear, but its propulsion sucks, which got problems for every sea trial.
